Can you hear smells or smell music?

localising different 'behaviour' to different parts of the brain is a dodgy area

like, that guy who got a spike thru his head & was pretty much completely normal afterwards .. ?

there's a book by a guy who got interested in it, and possibly also one called "the man who wore his wife as a hat"

I got synaesthesia, smell, colour, taste. It's weird trying to picture not having it

I just see flashing colors when I read stuff.

I have no synaesthasia whatsoever, but I can recall or imagine smells, like you could with music, quite vividly. Sometimes a smell can sneak up on you that feels like you haven't experienced it in ages, and it can take you back to a precise moment in time. I love that feeling. This thread is totally motivating me to quit smoking again.

Phineas Gage. Railway spike blew through his head. He seemed fine, but wasn't able to make sane long-term decisions any more. Went from being a reliable guy to being completely undependable.

I had to read "the man who wore his wife as a hat" along with a bunch of other books for a class, once. I've forgotten most, but one was "Phantoms in the brain" by Vilayanur S. Ramachandran.
