lennon once said something like that; he didn't write many songs but the songs he wrote were up there in the best ones.

and then: concert for bangladesh

As I've heard the story, All Things Must Pass is basically a collection of songs from his last couple years with the beatles.

Apparently, John and Paul constantly shut him down and wouldn't let him put his songs on the albums.

He was the first to officially quit the group and I believe the first to release a solo LP following the split.

All Things Must Pass, in addition to being one of the greatest albums ever recorded, was also a massive "fuck you".

George is a genius and shares my birthday.

They all had rejected songs from the last few years that came out after they broke up. Harrison was the first one to leave, for about a week, and then came back. I think since they were all disagreeing and historically Lennon and McCartney had written most of the songs before it wasn't really the time for Harrison to start trying to get more songs in. There are clips on the Let It Be film of Paul being fairly condescending to George, and of John having a massive whinge about Maxwell's Silver Hammer being shit, which it obviously isn't. It's bizarre how unhappy they were with Abbey Road.

Personally I think Harrison had a bunch of great songs but not on the level of Lennon and McCartney. I haven't heard the Bangladesh album but I've got a few live recordings of George and he sounded quite terrible.

Can't believe no one's posted this.

But yeah...George was the coolest Beatle. Between "Something", "I Need You" and "Only A Northern Song", those are three of the best songs the band ever recorded, IMO.

It's All Too Much, Blue Jay Way and Love You To are all fucking awesome! As is While My Guitar... of course

The older stuff was alright, I especially like If I Needed Someone

But the real underrated Harrison song is Long Long Long... Basically no one ever mentions it but it's absolutely gorgeous

Are you kidding? That song blows. It's down there with "yellow submarine" for the title of worst ever Beatles song.

Now this is an awesome song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lWAl5V-SiKQ

It's nice when the Beatles remembered they were a rock band.

I think it was nicer when they forgot that. I'd take the granny music any day.

incredible track, agreed.

you know the weird rolling noise near the end? that's a wine bottle that was on the harmonium. by sheer coincidence george hit a chord which contained its exact resonant frequency, and it started rolling about.

I guess I can agree that it's underrated. But it's always been one of my favorite beatles songs. George Harrison was epic.

George was my favorite by a million miles, and then John a million miles ahead of Ringo, and fuck Paul.

edit: only sort of joking
