So has there not been a thread on this guy yet? Totally lush, super-weird hip-hop made up from found sounds with a nice lo-fi quality to it. Honestly, I think everyone should download his free album (see below) cause it's one of the most surprisingly awesome things I've heard in ages.

I read somewhere that he's got records coming out on both Tri Angle and Type.

it's pretty good but extremely basic.

I enjoy it, especially as an extension of the drag or witchhouse sound that became so cliche. It's kind like a hybrid between the Tri-Angle and brainfeeder "trademark" styles.

that's a pretty good comparison actually—and he is indeed releasing an EP on Tri-Angle this or next month. but i easily prefer him over any of the other artists on Tri-Angle, or witchhouse in general—while his production may be rather "basic", it lends to rappers' vocals really well:

^thats definitely my favorite song of his (clams casino), can't get it out of my head. It's probably my only favorite though, his other songs are kinda meh.

it's so strange that he was making these beats with the goal of getting people like lil wayne and cam'ron to use them. it's almost as if he didn't realize how unconventional his music was.

Yeah, also his lack of understanding of the technical aspects of producing is also strange. He only just recently worked out how to make 320k mp3s. Did he just not notice/care how bad the 160k originals sounded compared to how the tracks sounded in his DAW?

Also the Rainforest EP has the worst clipping of any record I've heard. Actually it's beyond clipping to the point where a good chunk of each waveform has just been literally sheared off. That shit can't be deliberate. Doubly confusing that no one at Tri Angle thought to have a word.

the kid just has talent about sound design and not so much about sound production. I actually respect him for that

I didn't. I think it is basic. or "simple" anyway, like Burlel. not necessarily a bad thing.

So the real question is what has he been up to? Yes his style from 2010-2012 was influential. but then it felt like each instrumental collection kind of got less interesting. The last one was in 2013. Also only 3 songs produced for other artists in 2015 (sez wiki)
