this is the most recent thing i've heard of, from his facebook. the original sounds like some cute regular synthpop (albeit with good production imo)

it does seem like something right up his alley to remix, and sounds great

also usagi, you think burial is simple or whatnot? that's interesting, i've always found his style very lush and hard to pick apart, harder than clams at least. but also helps to remember that clams makes beats for other people to rap / sing over, the beats still do a good job of standing on their own though.

can't speak for usagi but I would distinguish them as both very distinct yet formulaic in approach - burial has very simple methods of making music apparently, as does clams casino, but the former does make less "basic" music imo. I would be shocked if either guy has drastically changed his setup, let alone the DAWs and VSTs they are using.

clams is simpler - a drum break and a pitch-shifted sample looped, some effects and no concern over clipping. he tends to let the samples play out as intros / interludes.

burial has always had the same sound, recycled a lot of breaks and samples, and his music has always had the same atmosphere and timbre. but he's progressed by making longer songs, using more layers, adding more dynamic to the structures of tracks.

in a RBMA Goldie described Burial's music making as primitive - and IRC Burial says he uses Sony soundforge or something (I forget but I think it's actually a movie media editor and not a dedicated music DAW). So I wonder if his setup is simple in the sense that he has a very basic cut and paste and layer method of producing tracks

That's my one gripe against Clams, although I love the compositions, some of his beats have some pretty nasty clipping going on.

totally agree with the burial comparisons, i'm p sure i've said this irl before. very basic ways of making music, but they both have natural ear for nice sounding tunes n composition. that's all that matters really, you have these guys who spend ages making everything sound as neat and tidy as possible, but the actual music itself is not very interesting at all.

although yeah clams could use a little tidying up on a few tracks haha.

U guys are crazy, the clipping is his whole sound. If they weren't clipping I suspect the music would be boring as hell

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

In my defense, I thought they were talking about the distortion/compression, not actual clipping when played back. He is definitely clipping the inputs to his sampler, or mimicking that kind of sound.
