  Quote
"Serving as a testament to Hyperdub/Brainfeeder affiliate, Samiyam's long standing but somewhat unsung status as a stand-alone entity in the beat scene; Sam Baker's Album is a collection of unashamedly intoxicated cuts gleefully unburdened, but not untouched, by the influence of LA Messrs (and peers) Dilla, Madlib and Flylo. It's unique bedroom home-grown, cultivated from both sides of the Hip Hop Spectrum. Dismantling them for an end product as much Master P styled trunk bumping as it is trusted vinyl crackles and post-Dilla compression obsession. Thrown in with a penchant for some Nintendo-patented saccharine square-waves and the woozy funk-bass of robots and you have the one, the only, Samiyam.

POST-DILLA.

Samiyam sure had a punchable face as a kid, if that's him on the cover.

the biggest illusion is yourself

the bass is quite good. but the imagination is lacking - it's pretty much the same all the way through, very lacking in focus and structure. might be taken as some kind of DIY aesthetic by some, but sounds careless to me.

that anthony guy don't know wht he talk about.

-i'll answer some questions:

context: dimly lit 70's basement w/ green carpeting, in a reverent mood, perhaps baked or dissociated but not necessarily. need to be hazily nostalgic, sipping on a glass of some inebriant. perhaps have a muted snes to play on a dusty crt tv, one with a faux wood panel around it. The air needs to smell of stale tobacco smoke.

this album would be a classic if the songs didn't go on for so fucking long!!!!! it's like something is missing. i'm listening to certain parts and I'm like 'are you serious man? this has been going on for like 3 minutes doing the same thing over and over with very little variation. if it had a guy rapping over it that would be ok, but it doesn't!!!!!'

seriously, other than that the album is gold, some of the beats are amazing. but it doesn't work as a pure listening experience because some parts just go on way too long
