randomizer here. cheap software synth present there. who needs all this shit?

So you opened up Live 8 without knowing what it contained, and complained about presets?

Just wanted to say that you sound like a fucking noob.

I think it was more the "I just want to compose a nice melody" person inside me that got irritated by all this. I am kind of fed up with all these glitch effects that distract you from building a solid song. Its like: ah there is a semi-nice composition lets add some midi randomness on top - done. I just want to get away from that in my composition and live seens to take the oposite direction which made me post this in a form that was a bit more rude than I intended.

I don't understand. One has to go out of their way to insert any kind of glitch fx. It's not like things get loaded up with them applied already. Just don't add them no? It's not like you're forced to. This seems like a silly complaint to me.

true maybe I was just a bit disappointed with the update giving me more randomness where I wanted tools to apply harmonics more accurately.

I think it's just a general thing, for me at least.. we all get bombarded with distracting stuff all the time, and then you just want to sit down and focus to make some tunes. And lo and behold there is this software you like to use that is becoming more and more a distraction in itself from the things you love to do.. maybe that's why I stopped updating Reason after version 2.5.. sometimes you just want to sit down and do stuff. that's probably the appeal of shit like Minecraft, strips everything down to the basics, no glossy graphics just building.

exercise a bit of self control. if you're that easily distracted by software then just play your piano/keyboard, find a guitar, sing a song, write a song the old fashioned way if indeed that is the thing you love to do.

people whining about having too many options because they can't focus on their own

the mind boggles

GHOST: have you killed Claudius yet

Simpler is nice and doesn't use much CPU and Operator you can make some badass devilish basslines. Redux is a nice little bitcrusher to add some nice wob wob grissle to a bass. I like a lot of the Ableton's midi and other effects. I'm still using 5 but have 8 on another laptop.

Self control? What? Man with so many options... I can't sit down and do stuff, I alway feel like I'm in a rush. Back when I only had this freaking old computer that would only run Reason 1.0 I was way more productive.. seems like I'm only skimming the surface on a lot of ground a lot of the time.. All these possibilities, sound porn.

Fuck it, I'm finding my way. But don't judge me when I'm dissing software, man

word, i hate midi fx stuff. can't comment on live since i only used it briefly a few years ago, but i notice FL and other programs are starting to include a lot more of these "autocomposition" tools, and i think that definitely falls on the side of making music too easy to generate (which is a big deal in FL i guess)

DAW discussions are funny, people are so quick to get defensive about their favorite software environment. personally, i never got into ableton but i'd be interested in trying it again just for max4live

hehe, or just stop complain in general? :emotawesomepm9:

nah man, you are probably right.. this is kind of theraputic though.

In all seriousness, I used to have a crappy PC and it was shit to get software to run on it. I was always incredibly intrigued by all this technology that I could hardly get to run. Then I got a nice PC and all these posibilities came at me, and it was just like TV, I could spend weeks trying out all sorts of stuff without actually doing anything. Sucked me right in.

These days I don't use any warez anymore (except some abandon warez), maybe try out some stuff here and there but that's it. That certainly worked wonders. But the more money I put into it the more this gearlust is coming back to me. I recently bought a new sequencer and I haven't really used it at all..

It's alright. Still love doing music, that's for sure.

sorry about that - i didn't mean to be dissing you, or singling you out. I do believe that you can sit down and do stuff, and you should try, even in the midst of distractions. That is a valuable skill, if you ask me. Limitations can be helpful, like you mention about your old computer - but if the software is not limited, and you need limitations, maybe it would help to impose the limitations you need upon yourself. That's all I really meant in that last post (but it came out pretty rude, my bad). "Fuck it, I'm finding my way" is the attitude to have.

I wish people would stop complaining about (pirated) music technology.
