Your Alarms

How do you wake up in the morning? Beeps, music? How many alarms does it take to get you out of bed? What are your mobile-alarms called?

Thomas Cunt. 7:15. This is my initial wake-up.

Thomas Cock. 7:30. This is my get out-of-bed alarm, but I usually snooze it for another 10mins.

Do the bus stop! 8:30. Time to be getting out of the house and catching that bus.

Weekend. 10:00. Self-explanatory.

Fuck you. 9:00. This is my alarm if I ever need to set one earlier than normal.

All my alarms are just standard, shrill, horrible, klaxon beeps that do the trick in instantly stirring me, but I always hit 'snooze'. If I absolutely have to get up on time I'll leave my phone on the other side of the room so I have to get out of bed to turn it off.

My girlfriend's alarms go off a little earlier than mine and is the first 15 seconds of Jamie Lidell - Wait For Me.

when the school starts at 8:30:

using the mobile phone with some horribly annoying default tune, put the first alarm on 6:15, another one on 6:20.

first alarm goes off - hit snooze, second one goes off - hit snooze, repeat until about 7:00, the time i should be at the bus stop to arrive to the uni on time.

wake up, not have enough time to do any morning activities properly, dress up brush teeth in 1-2 mins, no time to eat anything, miss the bus, arrive to the class about 20 mins late, stomach gurgling all the time. repeat for the last 3 months

My alarm is set for 6:20 and is your standard shrill beeping noise. I put it right next to where my head is on the bed so there's no chance of me sleeping through it.

That said, for the past 4 or 5 years I've been starting to wake up about an hour before it goes off and sort of drifting in and out of sleep until I get up at 6:15 and just turn the alarm off, so I haven't actually heard my alarm in months.

I'm with you, eugene.

Since I moved within 15mins bus of my job I've become so lazy and am often 5-10mins late. I just get so comfortable lying in bed at 8:20 and gambling that if I get to the bus stop at 8:45 I might catch that just in time. Of course I never do. And I never eat breakfast. And my boss even dropped me a little note yesterday. Oops.

In the last couple of weeks I've been staying up 'til 1am on weeknights which makes me feel groggier in the morning, but I'm always groggy really.

Usually, my alarm goes off at 7 am. I wake up so early in the morning so I have time to get fresh, go downstairs, smoke a bowl an eat some Grape Nuts. By 7:45, I gotta leave the house for the bus stop so I can catch my bus.

Sometimes, however, my friends will drive by the stop looking for me. If I see them, they'll pull over and make room for me to get in and catch a ride to school.

Here's where it gets complicated, though: So the guy who drives just got his license, and, well, he's not the best driver! Swerving all over the place, looking at me for minutes straight instead of the road. Why do people look at you when they talk whilst driving cars?! But then, in the back seat is Jamie, and I think he has had a crush on me for some time now. It's embarrassing, because I don't really like him all that much. Nobody in my class does, really; he's kind of a dork and just tries too hard to be cool, so he ends up looking like an idiot. So then I have to choose -- do I get stared at and risk my death in the front seat? or do I get awkwardly hit on in the back seat?

I usually hope the bus just comes and picks me up so I don't have to decide which seat I should take.

Just use my phone. Place it on the desk on the other side of the room.

Cant be a track, because I end up associating it with getting up and therefore hating it.

My mate says he uses a track I made as his alarm. I certainly think it would work.

I hate waking abruptly. I have an app on my phone that measures my sleep movement. If it measures high movement between 10u00 to 10u30 (or 10u30 if I didn't move) it sends a command to my MPD server which slowly fades in some selected wake-up music through my speakers.

I would love one of those Philips light waking things as well.

Yeah I am. I think sleep is a big waste of time and have trouble sleeping when I'm not very tired, so I might as well optimize it. With that wake-up method, analyzing my sleep movement logs and experimentation I found 4 to 5 hours of sleep a night on a normal working week is a good equilibrium. I started this when I read an article about athletes using special wake-up methods (like the Philips light wake method) to get better performance.

I just looked up one of those Philips lights. I've previously considered a sun-lamp sort of thing to stave off depressing winters.

Does the Philips light really work? I imagine that I'd just hide under my quilt as it gets light. Do you have to keep the room really dark?

Our cat is actually pretty good at waking me up recently. She likes to bite and claw at my face when she wants to be fed. Although I did turf her out of the room at 5am this morning, lol.

My cat used to do the same thing around 5-5:30 until I started booting him off the bed or throwing pillows at him. Now he resorts to more passive-aggressive methods like going into the adjacent bathroom and rattling and batting around things on the counter to make noise.
