One of the nice things about Aphex Twin's music is that because it isn't nice and clean, at least I don't have to worry about whether I have it in a high fidelity format or not. It was probably mastered to cassette tape after severe digital clipping anyway. Good. I can concentrate more on the sounds and the notes and less on the format. I don't get the point. you seem to be far too concerned with bit depth elusive, why is it such a big deal to you? you get off one posting this kind of stuff do you ? yes, he does. it's kind of a theme here. digital takes a lot of little pictures, analog inaccurately/charmingly approximates the original. if it were a movie, sampling rate would be frame rate, and bit depth would be the resolution. i feel it's entirely reasonable to assume there's a point where you have a quick enough frame rate, high-enough resolution that it'd be impossible for a human to tell the difference. it's much like film vs. digital cameras, yes? a few more generations of sensor technology, a few more megapixles... and you will be able to rip a vinyl. it wouldn't be a true electron-microscope scan (for 100% fidelity) but there would be a point where no human pair of ears would know the difference. not that it matters much these days, with planet mu releasing youtube rips on vinyl. a lot of this shit is just pump-primed fanboys jizzing dollars.
