Really, though, if you're all about digital perfection, maybe you might prefer some Autechre to the Analord series. ;)

Yeah, cos that goes down really well, doesn't it ?! ( http://forum.watmm.com/topic/67080-request-for-24bit-rereleases-of-draft-and-confield/ )

you want to hear digital mastering on a series whose whole purpose was to remain analogue? hence the gear used, then recorded to tape, then the tape straight onto vinyl etc...

I don't get the point. you seem to be far too concerned with bit depth elusive, why is it such a big deal to you?

you get off one posting this kind of stuff do you ?

the point is i wanted to hear the digital mastering such as that on the chosen lords - for the remaining analords.

Well I went straight from Chosen Lords to the digilords, what with not having a record player... They sound pretty similar or the same as far as I can tell. Then again, I'm not an audiophile, I like music, not hi-fis. :) Really, though, if you're all about digital perfection, maybe you might prefer some Autechre to the Analord series. ;)

i cant afford a decent turntable, at least not now

the vinyl rips i have now are good but chosen lords still have more detail (albeit with more compression)

you really are quite stupid elusive. I think your talents may be more suited to another board...

What would these kids have done in the days before all this digital shit? If you think compression is bad then you never experienced the TDK C90.

Am I right in thinking that the master tape of SAW 85-92 was mauled by Rich's cat hence the warbling sound on one of the tracks ?

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

That's the result of numerous jams in his car stereo before someone finally recorded the tape to computer using a microphone and pressed it to CD.

Good (Ana)lord... I was talking about their clean, precise sounding music... I can't really speak about or for the fans, I just buy albums and listen to them with my girlfriend in the middle of nowhere. Why does anyone even care about the format so much? One of the nice things about Aphex Twin's music is that because it isn't nice and clean, at least I don't have to worry about whether I have it in a high fidelity format or not. It was probably mastered to cassette tape after severe digital clipping anyway. Good. I can concentrate more on the sounds and the notes and less on the format.

actually i think that's why i don't like the analord series too much. sure it's analog stuff, but it's just too *clean*, part of the charm of early afx stuff was the cassette tape sound!

ahahaha i liked the bjork

yes, he does. it's kind of a theme here.

digital takes a lot of little pictures, analog inaccurately/charmingly approximates the original. if it were a movie, sampling rate would be frame rate, and bit depth would be the resolution. i feel it's entirely reasonable to assume there's a point where you have a quick enough frame rate, high-enough resolution that it'd be impossible for a human to tell the difference. it's much like film vs. digital cameras, yes? a few more generations of sensor technology, a few more megapixles... and you will be able to rip a vinyl. it wouldn't be a true electron-microscope scan (for 100% fidelity) but there would be a point where no human pair of ears would know the difference. not that it matters much these days, with planet mu releasing youtube rips on vinyl. a lot of this shit is just pump-primed fanboys jizzing dollars.
