Library Music

You know, stuff like this. Music made in the 50s, 60s, and 70s for commercials, TV, radio, movies, or generally whatever. There's a lot of it out there, and most of it is really obscure and hard to find. So those of you WATMMers who are into this style of music, please post your favorites!

Luke Vibert did a couple compilations of Library music:

oh yeah shit bruton music

i only have a few library music lps, but of those, half are bruton. solid stuff.

interesting essay in that book, the music library by (i think) andy votel of finders keepers/etc. explains how both the music and graphics exist within and outside pop music. really worth buying that book, seriously. it comes with a cd compiling some great library music as well.

Everything I'm hearing from Burton records sounds fantastic. I'll be downloading more from that label tonight.

I just read up about it. The book sounds amazing! Unfortunately it's quite expensive (from what I see from Amazon and Ebay) so I don't think I'll be buying it.

Guest Coalbucket PI

I came across a label that had a few volumes of great synthy pieces which I think were mostly science and technology themed. In fact the albums might have been called Science & Technology. I'll find the details when I get home

fake edit:

I found it, the label is Parry Music (http://www.discogs.com/label/Parry%20Music%20Ltd, seems to be active from late 70s to mid 80s and they have all types of albums listed, I don't know how easy they are to come by but I'd love to get some more. The albums I've got are called New Technology. Volume 1 I can certainly vouch for:

john zorn.

john zorn.

john zorn.

john zorn.

is God.

is God.

is John Zorn.

then again his stuff is a 'knockoff of library music.' but still.

'The Gift.'

'The Dreamers.'

'O'o.'

'Alhambra Love Songs.'

those are my favorites of his new 'Library music' phase. There are many, many more where that came from. He's my favorite artist ever, probably.

I tend to make really obvious observations. I'm not very into library music yet but this thread seems like a fantastic place to learn. Hope the Zorn rec was helpful!
