is God.

is John Zorn.

then again his stuff is a 'knockoff of library music.' but still.

'The Gift.'

'The Dreamers.'

'O'o.'

'Alhambra Love Songs.'

those are my favorites of his new 'Library music' phase. There are many, many more where that came from. He's my favorite artist ever, probably.

I tend to make really obvious observations. I'm not very into library music yet but this thread seems like a fantastic place to learn. Hope the Zorn rec was helpful!

John Zorn is good, and this track does indeed sound like it'd fit into the library music...library.

That being said, lets not talk about John Zorn in this thread again

oh kaini, you ragamuffin

well I wasn't sure how far outside of authentic library music this thread was going to tread, but if we're going for modern interpretations on the genre (thanks a lot, john zorn), I think Strange Life records is relevant as some sort of tangent. James Pants also had a release which seemed to take on the library music designation, as well as Broadcast's duo of Microtronics mini cds. And if you're into that sort of thing, Asthmatic Kitty has a faux library record series as well.

My sister got me one of the Asthmatic Kitty releases, though, and it's quite bad. I've been fighting the urge everyday to tell her it sucks for about six months now. So if anything, there's my rationale for this thread to remain relegated to forefathers of this musical phenomenon.

Most everything I've heard on Studio G is awesome, there is a really nice compilation on Trunk Records. The originals always sell for way more than I'm willing to spend...

ah yes, trunk records! easily the label most dedicated to rereleasing and creating exposure for library music. grabbed a pretty interesting (though at times, somewhat unlistenable) release by tristram cary—interesting radiophonic-esque beeps and squawks. i think trunk actually worked with fuel on releasing that music library book i'm trying to hustle, now that i think about it. spot-on label.

Mm. I thought I had found a library music compilation in an op shop for a dollar today (with all the hallmarks; titles listed on the front and back, descriptive of mood; lots of songs on the one LP; businesslike layout) but it turned out to be some sort of edit record for this singer-songwriter. Annoying.

I love the Barry 7's Connectors albums.

Classic to me...

I love Bruton music as well...came across an amazing track once called "Tomorrow's World" (or something very similar) on Bruton music but I can't find it. It was very synthy...

edit: found it...it's Geoff Bastow

  • 1 month later...

Any tips on diggin' for library records? Like, where would these things usually fall under? Soundtracks, lounge, rock, jazz? It's a bit tricky because there's never a section devoted to this kind of music in any record store I visit (except maybe Amoeba, but I haven't been there in a while).
