My dad has a copy of this but I'm wondering if it is worth the install (huge file) if I already have Ableton. Or is it worth me installing?

I read some reviews about it and they all seem pretty positive, but I just want to see what the watmmers think.

Cheers

H

If you have a legit copy of it, why not? As far as I know, this is an excellent software. Even some of the most talented producers in WATMM use Logic.

Ziggomatic: According to Wikipedia, this is exclusive to Mac OS.

Screw mac...

Perhaps I can hackintosh.

Logic is the shit. Very versatile and intuitive. The audio engine sounds pretty good. Not as good as Pro Tools, but it's one of the best.

You can even build generative machines in it if you want to get deep into the 'environment.'

I agree with everything Braintree wrote, but I must warn that a handful of my friends found it very unintuitive. Infact only one of my friends seemed to grasp it.

Logic is one of those love it or hate it type things. Just beware that you can't use VST plugins without a wrapper. Yeah, fucking retarded. That's Apple for you. Also, since it's managed by the same branch of Apple that butchered Final Cut Pro into some shitty rehash of iMove, don't be surprised if they do the same to Logic and turn it into Garage Band Plus. It may be a great DAW, but who the fuck wants to be part of the Steve Jobs anal probe cult?

People complaining about Apple on watmm, who'd have thought it? :emotawesomepm9:

I use Logic amongst other things, it's dead good.

About the anal probing? Because I haven't experienced that.

I just like to post inflammatory shit on the internet. Don't take anything I say too seriously. But yes, If you use a Mac Steve Jobs has definitely stuck pointy objects in your rectum at some point in time. I'm serious about that part. Apple is an anal probe cult.

Logic is exceptionally good. For some reason I was reluctant to use it for many years and tried pretty much everything else, but when I finally bit the bullet and installed it, I was most surprised and impressed. The reason it's so big is because of all the bundled sample and loop packs you get which add up to about 45gb or something... you can install it without them (and find a naughty version on line without them) which brings it down to 7gb-ish. the VST complaint is redundant - Logic uses AU plugins, of which there are a bewildering multitude available for free and for money. You can get all the Arturia, D16, Audiorealism and other "big name" plugins as AU units as well as all the other quirky little free synths and effects normally associated with the VST architecture.

basically, yeah get Logic.

hohoho,

fortunatly we all have a dad with a copy, plus mine has a horny thai,

I switched from PC/Cubase Sx to MAC/Logic + Ableton

here is what I have to say:

Logic:

contras:

-runs on a mac

-tardy if you don't have a $$$ Pro Mac, but behaves nicely on a BSD System in general, once your RAM is loaded,

the longer it runs, the better it runs, the more stable it runs.

pros:

- runs on a mac (extra swagpoints for hipsters)

- unbeatable workflow

- superior pianoroll

- lots of small native plugins, that do the job very well.

- best DAW on this planet for many reasons (there could be better DAWs on other planets)

Ableton:

cons:

- fucking kiddy-pederasts-toy interface

- made by former nazies (like any other bigger DAW [not pro tools]), me living in the middle of former nazies, knowing they killed my ppl,

knowing that it cost them a shit load of money to educate me, harharhar (this is the pro)

- sucks

- sucks & I am sentenced to use it

pros:

- none

Logic is great. Have used it for about 8 years now. I mostly compose in ableton now though, because the of the session view... I really like being able to perform my sketches, to make phrases. Once I have done most of the composition however, everything gets bounced to audio, and loaded up into logic for editing, and final mixing.

I love logics piano roll, and wish logic had a session view. if logic made it as easy as ableton to trigger events and clips, then I'd be in heaven. i really hate abletons piano roll, and track view. its a trade off... neither do exactly what I want them to.

i am in exactly the same place with ableton + cubase sx (which i use instead of logic). ableton, your piano roll is almost as bad as reason's, and your multitrack editing lacks/hides many features i find essential. even normalizing a clip is a pain in the ass.

By just making different objects and routing them into one another. There are plenty of sessions floating around that do this. A bunch of them are pretty old. The last time I tried doing something like this was back in Logic 7.
