Just unclick all the Logic Sample Packs.

yeah exactly.. i'm pretty sure you can get the total install size to a gig or less if you take out the fluff.

Yeah but don't those sample packs contain the necessary stuff or are they just random samples like the ones off freesound and shit?

the sample packs are necessary if you want to use the esx24 sampler plugin. i hear it's pretty good but i've never bothered with it myself. also there's a bunch of built-in loops, but if you have your own sample collection you can probably get by fine without any of that stuff.

If you install all the Apple Loops you get awful sax solos, drum beats and so on and all in all they're a whopping 70 gb. You don't need those samples.

exs24 is very good, and of course you don´t need the sample packs to use it, just use your own samples. it even acts as a great sine wave synth if you don´t load any samples

and there is like 10 Gb of useful one shot sounds in the sample pack, just don´t install all the loops and such. at least that´s what i did

I kind of figured out how to cut the raw loop in the sample editor, and export it as a .wav

the apple loop thing will only let me save it as a 'one shot" even though i know it is a 2 bar loop

Apple Loops as a format is dead end, IMO. I prefer using the MPC to actually cut the loops (easier to audition the looping there), so what I would do is just very roughly cut out the interesting parts of the tune in Logic (or whatever), then load them into the MPC to chop them.

But yeah don’t bother with Apple Loops, it’s just some junky metadata and tempo information and crap that the MPC isn’t going to care about anyway.

cut a rough area to loop in the mpc.

make a finer apple loop in the mac

with Apple Loop Utility...

once i find a loop in the mpc, how do i find it's tempo?

in terms of doing/taking both approaches, i should make new separate EKT topics.

Logic is pretty bad at editing audio. I would suggest getting a different wave form editor.

Adobe Audition, Peak, etc.
