Stupid iphones though, not allowing custom message tones! Modey, modey. It's pretty easy to create custom message tones for an iPhone using just iTunes, and you can do it with any track you have. For free. All you do is: Find the track you want, right click and "get info." Hit "options." Check both start time and end time boxes. Specify a 30-second or less interval. Click ok. Keep the track highlighted. Go to the menu bar and click "advanced," then select create AAC version or create lossless version. [first you may need to make sure your import settings are set to AAC or apple lossless]. That will create a ~30 second (or whatever you specified) duplicate copy. Now go back to the original track and unselect the start and end time, so that the original track plays back normally. Now, drag the short duplicate to the desktop. Delete the duplicate from iTunes itself. Go back to the desktop and rename the duplicate file to have an .m4r extension (you'll get a confirmation prompt). You just created a ringtone file! Drag it back to iTunes and release it into the "Library" column. YOUR'E FUCKING DONE! The ringtone will show up under ringtones in iTunes. All you have to do is sync the iPhone. Ok, so it's not exactly intuitive, but you can do it, and you can do it for free, and iTunes won't stop you, and your iPhone will be happy. The downside: using Gelk as my default ringtone for a year on my iPhone makes me sort of never want to listen to Gelk. modey
No, I meant text message tone. There's no way to do it without jailbreaking, as far as I know. I already know how to change the ringer tone. I really want to change it because the default ones are lame! And I hear my one all the time in public and think it's my phone, augh!
