he's been releasing stuff on modern love for a while now. merciless is a decent album (his only full length before now, i think) and then a bunch of eps, partially compiled on 'unknown exception'.

i actually wasn't too impressed with this newer stuff when i first heard it because it is a pretty big departure from his older sound, which was like a dubbier claro intelecto--much cleaner sounding, with more electro/techno influence. the new stuff came off like a bit of a cash-in after the success of actress in recent years. but after giving it more of a listen i like 'we stay together' a lot ('passed me by' hasn't impressed me as much). even if it is a stylistic shift, it's done well and there aren't too many people mining the style yet anyway.

Just got the 2xCD in the mail today, 25 USD via amazon which was pretty resonable considering the packaging/artwork is gorgeous and that there's 4 bonus tracks... which I havent listened to yet but look forward to doing so (whilst nicely blazed, of course )

I second that. This one is absolutely killer. I love Passed Me By and Luxury Problems, but if I was going to compile the best from these 3 releases, I think I'd only take 'Passed Me By', 'Numb' and 'Leaving' from the other two, whereas most of We Stay Together would make the cut.

I've been on a huge Andy Stott kick this week, it's also been fairly overcast all week. Perhaps that's why... It really does work well for gray snowy days in the city. I can also see it working well for cloudy spring/summer days. But yeah despite the African rhythms and such the music has a very urban feel to it, at least for me. Burial tends to touch on this vibe as well. The wet noisy reverbs just seem to mimic the sounds echoing through the streets and alleys.

Yeah im not bothered that its a bit  tossed-off. Like many others, I only got into Andy Stott post-Luxury Problems, so this record (+ Passed Me By) has been on my want list for some time. 

we stay together is his best release. too bad the repress doesnt have the great photo on the cover
