Uhm, no.... This is the conspiracy thread. So, if you conform to the general presumption, it's not the terrorists who have achieved their goal, it's the government!

The government are the real terrorists, duh.

Not just this thread, it sums up every conspiracy theory ever made.

It might be a good solution, but I don't agree that politics or some other authority wouldn't be involved. The reason is pretty simple: there's always going to be some sort of organisation with some hierarchy involved. It's almost inherent to police. The question might be what kind of organisation. In the solution you present, the organisation is a bit more grassroots, in some non-literal way.

Apart from a different organisation, it's also a thing of having a different culture, I guess. But even when you say a solution is to have some different culture in the police force, this different culture should be reflected and supported throughout the entire organisation. The top included.

That's a valid point. I guess what I am trying to say that it would be a good idea that civilians are more involved in their immediate surroundings, and trying to work out to improve that, instead of waiting for someone to tell them what they should do (which seems to me to be the current trend).

A general note on hierarchical structures: they are build on the willingness of the bottom to hold up the top, and it looks like most people are just comfortable in being told what to do.

Nah, that was the other experiment.

milgram was about people giving other people supposedly shocks while some authoritative figure asked them to continue when the person giving the shocks wanted to stop the experiment. on average 66% of people, men and women, finished the experiment and went on to (supposedly) give the maximum voltages (450 volts).

put it simply, if your boss says jump, 66% odds you'll jump even though you don't want to.

oh right, that's the one.

well, good thing that studying psychology for 7 years wasn't wasted haha

Important thing to note was that the person on the other end went silent at ~300 volts, yet still they continued..

Pretty gruesome when you think about it.

Asch's conformity experiments were pretty astounding as well.

how is that a conspiracy
