Hummus Appreciation Thread

Recommended Posts

funny story tho – that I thought would have the hummus lovers laughing…..I recently made the mistake of buying hummus from the store – I hadn’t made it – but my sister does and it’s great and what can I say – I has a hankering…..the store bought stuff was just TERRIBLE!!!! I couldn’t even eat it – it was just icky and not nice. I told this to my sister – who was kind enough to bring me some that she made. When I was serving it up on a tray with pita wedges and carrots – my nephew (who is 4) innocently asked me “uncle – why would you buy icky hummus from the store?” I just started to giggle – I didn’t have a good answer and what can you say to that….outta the mouths of babes….. well i’m off to use this recipe to start making my own! hurray!

"No more messy containers with left over crumbs in the tub!"

what? are they implying squeeze bottles result in less waste or what? squeeze bottles always have loads of 'crumbs' (what?) left in them. They're crap.

this isn't even worth posting but they've got the ingredient lists for tahini and babaganoush the wrong way around on there.

The best supermarket hummus you can buy in the UK is Sabra Extra. Without doubt. If you live in the UK and have access to a Sainsburys, get on down there and buy some Sabra Extra. You won't regret it

Will look out for this. Usually I go to the Jewish section of our local Sainsburys and get this:

Yep, been scalded many a time by cutting into freshly toasted pitta and getting in the way of internal steam escaping which seems to be hot enough to smelt iron.

I live in Pinner, which has a large Jewish population (I actually live opposite the Synagogue). So our Sainsburys has two small Jewish sections.

The chilled one has houmous, chopped liver and beef hot-dogs etc. The dried goods part (next to the Indian section) has matzos, stock cubes, peanut flavored crisps and passover candles etc.

Eating some more hummus, hamos, hommos, hommus, homos, houmous, hummos, hummous, or humus right now with some whole grain flatbread again.

FUCK YEAH!

Beer and hummus :sup:

i just bought hummus to take home for the first time, i've had it tons of times before when eating falafel out etc but never bought any at the store to take home, so now im not sure what to do with it. though i guess it's tasty enough to just eat right out of the jar.

I had hummus over at a friends house on friday night... my wife and I looked at eachother like wtf? it was home made and no taste... she didn't put any other garlic or spices to give it a kick... just bland... I didn't say anything though... just took a couple more bites just to not offend her.

I just finished the last of some hummus I made a couple weeks ago. A full bulb of garlic, and quite a bit of cayenne went into it. It was pretty good guys.

i've never had spicy hummus...

i like the hummus with extra garlic and lemon, it can get rather spicy. cayenne sprinkled on the top, drizzled with olive oil
