IMO, where it's at is 70's equipment from goodwill. My sound system entirely that except the flimsy usb turntable and 90s Sony speakers that I use for the mid-left and mid-right, and they're the real weak links in it, as the turntable is unstable and prone to wobble without regular adjustment of the belt, and I have to be constantly adjusting the bass on the speakers to prevent them from blowing their pathetic cones.

how do you tell if a thing is made in the 70s? are all of them from the 70s pretty good?

look for this button affixed to the item:

lol.

No, not everything from the 70s is good, but you can find things like rectilinear speakers or tube receivers, and they're generally pretty fantastic sounding.

this is the sort of thing I'm talking about. http://www.gallagher.com/ebay.htm

There is lots of good stuff from other eras of course though, I only specified 70s, because you're pretty likely to be able to find 70s stereo equipment cheaply, as there are a lot of people who don't know shit about audio who get rid of their good old equipment to buy Bose speakers and a cd player or w/e.

I had a pair of these bad boys back my teens

700w.jpg

bought them off my mates dad who used to own a hi-fi/tv shop back in the mid 80's so they were the ex speakers of an ex hi-fi shop owner which meant they were the shit! I got them with some old Bose class A amp that had a radio dial tuner and TK421 (ahem) bass boost. They biggest smoothest bass I ever did hear, I modded them with kevlar cones later on and sold them back to my mate 10yrs later and he still has them now.

I used to blast CJ Bollands Prophet and 'It doesn't matter' to show them off to mates although do I think these are partly to blame for my slight tinnitus.

Carbon dating.

EDIT: Hey you managed it though, a post sans spelling error

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

I found a pretty sweet receiver from the 80's on the street like a month or two ago. It works fine, but the radio doesn't work. I'm sure that's why they threw it out

There's still a grammatical error with the first letter of the first word not being capitalized.

Yeah, buy some used 70's stuff from a second hand market or whatever, it's usually very underpriced unless you go to a fancy vintage audio place. If you're not sure how good it sounds, you could always try listening to it before you pay up. Old Marantz receivers usually sounds nice, but you can get whatever.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.
