Did a search on here and came up fairly empty handed. Show me the best juke tunes you've heard. Not really into anything i've heard off that planet-mu comp that came out recently

I really like this however.

or anything with jungle influence/dubby/melodic. Not really feeling the stuff overloaded with ghetto vocal samples or the 160bpm equiv of footcrab by addison groove. School me!

Machinedrum's Ecstasy Boom EP is good, that came with the album as a limited download MP3. Jungle meets footwork, bootleg style type thing.

It's hard to know what to recommend in a way, as you seem to dislike the ghetto samples, which is a pretty large part of the genre. I'd check Chrissy Murderbot's LP, which is full of fun party tunes, with a hefty dose of the Chicago sound creeping in.

His juke mix is also good to get schooled on where the sound came from originally. It's a lot more banging than you may think!

The Africa Hitech LP you'd probably also dig, as it incorporated percussive elements from the genres whilst keeping a strong upfront melodic vibe to it, making it a little more crossover.

Also, this EP was CRIMINALLY overlooked - it's fantastic, on Brighton's Well Rounded Records by a guy called Wheez-ie from Texas. I'd highly recommend this. Sounds like the most manic cartoon I've heard in my life!

Probably best to stick to this stuff then move onto some of the more obtuse stuff. Planet Mu took an interesting approach by releasing the most WTF stuff first. I like the DJ Spinn and DJ Rashad EPs on that label, quite sample heavy, but some great stuff there.

The thing i like about a lot of this newer juke is how classic it sounds. It is very reminiscent of the early days of idm.

In the beginning i hated it. Now it is really growing on me.

I agree, there's something very refreshing about the sound.

Not to nickpick on you, but this made me think...I wonder if there's any resentment or dismissal amongst the Chicago footwork/juke regarding the sudden interest in the genre and subsequent influence it's had on releases outside of that scene. Sort like, I dunno, the "hipster metal" insult that's slung at recent fans of hyped black and sludge metal bands who've never been interested in older "classic" metal and its subculture. Like...instead of Wolves In The Throneroom or Liturgy we have Chrissy Murderbot and Machinedrum. Btw I'm arguably a guilty party in both examples.

Anyway, I only ask this because the attention has been quite positive from what I've seen...releases on Planet Mu, mixes being highlighted on major electronic music websites, and now all the excellent 2011 tracks influenced by the genre. I was never one who ripped on the rough sounding DJ Nate tracks personally but that said it's pretty cool seeing that basic template he, DJ Rashad, DJ Spin, etc utilized in some great sounding releases by well established producers of IDM/dubstep/techno/blah blah...

Also, does anyone one else remember the live footage of footwork that was posted in a ghettotek/ghettohouse thread awhile back? I think it actually predated the DJ Nate signing and all the juke hype, and I remember my reaction to the music was "this is quite fascinating..."

Wow these tracks from Andrea are really great. And Whee-zie is just crazy. Thanks for that dude!

Yeah hell there's something refreshing about this kind of footwork sound. So pure, stripped down and in your face. And finally a step away from wobble-wobble sounds...

What's up folks? Thought I'd drop a link to my first attempts at some Juke trax from earlier this summer. Been rinsing them a bit to great effect. Volume 2 coming up soon, with some more refined productions...would love to hear what you guys think!

Free downloads, for the record...

I also produce loads of house and techno, not much representation on my SC page at the moment, but you can take a peek at my vinyl releases on Proper Trax

BTW, thanks for the tips on some of these guys. Hadn't given Machinedrum a proper listen, despite the hype that's been getting lately. Very dope album.

Loving this sound the last year, it's just fresh and no rules. And when you've got the right sound system, it's like manning fucking bass cannon!

Ha, I've been looking at a lot of tracks in here, and been thinking, this is hipster juke. Especially that Machinedrum song. Whitest juke I've EVER heard. Christ.
