God, this new shit sounds like 80's-90's hardcore. Overlayed with that new garbage the mainstream hip-hop community is all about. I wish I didn't have to wake up to this thread. Thanks UK.

this is hipster juke. Especially that Machinedrum song. Whitest juke I've EVER heard. Christ.

i prefer hipster juke personally, if that's what the Machinedrum album could be called. The other stuff just sounds like a locked groove, where it wouldn't matter if the song was 10 seconds or long or 5 minutes long. I think most Juke works well in a dj mix context, but on its own as a CD playing different juke tracks its untenable.

I thought exactly this! Which you can say about a lot of electronic music to be fair, but more so on this style of music I find.

Yea, but with the footwork style of dance, I think that locked-groove has an appeal to it.

I feel that this Machinedrum stuff is more about the music and less about the dance. Which I guess is fine, but I happen to really hate the music.

funny enough, there was a juke/footwork remix project of jungle/hardcore classics, saw it on Simon Reynolds' blog:

I'll admit, I've really warmed up to footwork as of late.

If anybody is looking for some good free compilations, check out World Wide Juke that have put up 13 compilations for free download, there's also this compilation that showcases Japanese footwork artists. I know I've already made a thread about it but check out the awesome Psuedogeddon compilation too, although it's more of a cross between footwork and jungle.

Oh and I'll also quickly mention this in passing... :whistling:

So I've recently been dipping my toes (heh) into footwork and juke. I really like RP Boo (his track on mu-20 and the classics release lit the fuse) and recently also got DJ Clent's "Last Bus to Lake Park" album which I am really enjoying. I know footwork and juke are not universally liked on here, but I've only seen a couple of mentions of DJ Clent. Is he generally despised because of the whole Machinedrum debacle, or is anyone else digging his tunes?
