What? I think he meant to say that it didn't support multitrack recording, which Reason (unless you also bought Record) didn't support until version 6. As far as I can tell, Reason started off as pretty much just a sample based drum machine, sample playback machine, drumloop type sample playback machine, and (presumably using extremely short single-cycle built in samples for oscillators) a subtractive synth. So he probably wasn't referring to that.
