"The U.K.-based dance music magazine Mixmag in February voted him the greatest DJ of all time. His Kaleidoscope World Tour last year, with 175 dates on six continents, raked in more than $28 million, ranking it among the top 25 highest-grossing tours of 2010, according to Billboard magazine."

There are only ever 100 active musicians, one of whom is always chassis.

FACT

Most of your favorite bands are either RDJ aliases (eg, Polygon Window, RJD2, Pink, Avril Lavigne) or this guy: IMG0060.jpg

(that's Tiesto, aka BT, aka Slim Joe the Banjo Man)

Is there even a comparable analogue in music? The 1% are a group of economic giants whose practices reap incredible profits at the expense of the other 99%. The only way I can draw the analogy with music is still under the criteria of finance.

Then again, Awepittance may be on to something by mentioning BT, whether he is aware of it, or not. I know for a fact that BT has a few assistants and interns working for him and they do not get any credit for the material they generate that he ends up using. A similar situation exists in the world of film scoring. Several of the big Hollywood film composers have a similar group of ghost writers and assistants generating content based on musical themes and ideas that are given to them by the "composer". Hans Zimmer comes to mind. He's more of a business which operates under his name.

Actually you could probably just say the 1% in music is the execs. The whole analogy holds true when you consider the producers/engineers/musicians the actual workers and the corporate people the erstwhile bankers. They even fuck up in similarly absurd ways (INTERNET? WHATS THAT AND WHY WOULD WE USE IT FOR MARKETING?!?! DURR!)

I'd say Tiesto fits that quite nicely. At least the motherfuckers who are wrecking the economy have the brains to do so. Tiesto just presses play on a mix he made in Ableton or Traktor and then pretends to tweak the EQs on his mixer. He reaps incredible profits at the expense of others creativity.
