i really enjoyed your music ZoeB

Thanks! ^.^ What I'm working on last month and this month is much better, but I'm not sure when it'll see the light of day, as the documentary it's for is currently still in the filming process, so it may be a few months...

I finally did something new yesterday, and it felt good. I do it for the money.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

I enjoy being in the flow, and having something to show for it afterwards. Also, as a career, it sure beats programming, although I enjoy that too, to a lesser extent. It's just nice to be able to make something you're proud of, and to be able to push yourself outside your comfort zone on a regular basis. But mostly, making music is just plain fun.

Yeah that's pretty much my sentiments too.

I would also say that its the challenge of producing something that you end up being proud of and enjoy yourself and hopefully others will appreciate too.

Yeah, you can't beat that feeling of enjoying a piece of music that you wrote yourself, or hearing other people talk about how they enjoy it too. Oh, and it's also nice to scratch an itch if you want to hear a particular style of music and no one else is making it, to just be able to make it yourself. It's nice to be self sufficient like that.

The moment I prefer in music making is the one when you just find something that make your head bang, alone with your music equipment. The moment when you feel "wow, I made that !...". A little narcissistic but I'm sure a lot of you know what I mean.

When this happens, the trap is to listen to the loop that make you feel so good repetitively and to lose the focus of the whole track. I think that's the reason why I sometimes fail at achieving tracks. Then I have to take a break from it so that the magic is able to come back eventually.

two things, I just really like writing melodies and rhythms that sort of hold the feel of a moment or a thing. abstract things.. once I figured out how other people where getting a reaction out of me I wanted to mimic that I guess.. and I love exploring my gear, to see what I can get out of it. making weird setups and getting cool stuff out of it is inspiring to make me want to capture that moment.

I feel with Tech where its at now I have more than enough tools at my disposal to just make any sort of tune that said I'm still working on me skills lol. I mean its crazy tho I can almost roll off a tune with my Ipod Touch alone!

I suppose down the years there has been the excitement of new gear and what you might achieve from it e.g. for years I wanted a sampler so badly but now I have one I don't even use it lol!!

I'm still of the view that you don't really need a lot of gear to crank out a decent tune even back in the hardware only days - just essentially patience, persistence and a very very open mind!!

I was gonna say because I can, but shit...

Like some personal form of meditation.

this. i could have typed a million reasons why, but in the end it comes down to this...

That is fucking spot on.

3 things I guess

1. the pleasure of hearing / creating / being in a zone

2. it adds a texture underneath daily life and becomes a part of me

3. all the possibilities and 'worlds' one can go to and even create (with help from others who have created similar music before;)

I love music

I can't find any more music I really love, so I try to write the stuff I want to hear. I fail every time, but I'm getting closer, so I keep on going. The illusion that I'll write something I love listening to. At least the illusion works while I'm writing the tune. It's the next day when I listen back and think... what the fuck was I thinking?

Why is the music I love so fucking complicated (it probably isn't and I'm just a retard)? It makes this a lot harder to do, but at least it's something to do.

Also because I can't think of anything better to do.

Women TOTALLY want to fuck you when you tell them you make obscure electronic music. Show them how you're taking control of the drum machine and they'll be putty in your hands. :emotawesomepm9:

This might not be the sort of answer you're looking for, but I think the reason I write music is that I like listening to music.

Same with most of my creative outlet.

The more I watch plays, the more I write plays.

The more I read, the more I write.

The more I listen to classical music, the more I write classical music.

The more I listen to electronic music, the more I write it.

Now the exception is painting and drawing. I just do that shit all the time. But I think that, for creative people, when they see a medium of art, they just naturally dream of making some of their own and sticking their name on it. That's how it tends to work with me.

I had an epiphany when I was 13. Up until that point, my musical diet was mostly metal and the angst-y stuff that was being produced at the time. I think you know the type. Then, over the course of that summer I began listening to The Beatles. It contained a happiness and a sincerity that I had not yet encountered; and with that a tremendous change in my disposition and outlook on life. It was a personal revolution. I have never felt anything like the joy I experienced when listening to them.

Shortly thereafter I decided that my goal in life was to create music that made others feel just as good as when I heard their music.

I just enjoy being lost in sounds. I sometimes work on those sounds for hours during the night. it sometimes ends up in something listenable, somtimes not. but it sure is fun as hell !

and it's rewarding when you enjoy your final output, and even more when you have positive feedback !
