Occupy Oakland confronted with tear gas

Recommended Posts

Anyone feels this thread being occupied?

On a tangent though, I was very impressed with Bill Clinton's performance at the Daily Show. The things he said, but even more the way he said them. It was coming from his toes, so to speak. He was very emotional about it. And his emotions were real. A rarity in politics. Real emotions. So, to return to the original topic again, politics need to be real again.

Thanks Bill.

They want to raid/break up the Oakland protests again, but apparently third party agencies want nothing to do with it now.

  Quote
Oakland police have begun to plan another eviction operation, but it appears that this time, they may not be able to rely on other law enforcement agencies. Quan's indecisiveness has frustrated many agencies that provided mutual aid during the eviction and two subsequent demonstrations. Some of the agencies say they cannot afford to send more police to Oakland, when their own departments are understaffed -- and especially if the city is going to allow protesters to return to the camp.

are you one of those people who can't differ between american politics and the american people? and don't tell me the people are entirely to blame for the politics of a country, portugal is one of the most corrupt, xenophobic (you love those brazilians don't you?), class segregated countries in europe after all. i used to be like that, a hater of all things american, then i grew up and realized that, despite its faults, there are way too many things about american culture i love for me to keep bashing the whole country. as long as you don't get into an argument about guns or religion, they're alright innit!

anyway, the only reason im even writing this is because i don't want people to think high horse europeans like this represents the views of all of europe. hollywood, mcdonalds and mtv? how cliché can you get?

So much stereotyping. We have a love and hate relationship with brazialians i dont know where you got those ideas man we are not xenophobic at alll, but despite living in a a world of political "correctness" and multiculturalism blabla, we have a culture and a people and we like it like that, america had that once, and they were all killed (the indians) america now is just a lot of people who haver the same objective : get rich or die trying (mostly, and its what america is made off) even if most people are not like that, they have are deeply immersed in this vile and fast food culture. I have friends from various countries who went there, and a few months later, they were participating in a 4th july ceremony, in uniform, they think they love america when in fact they dont even understand what the fuck it means. For me america is also responsible for the cultural globalization wich is supported by those protesters, they 're all pro multiculturalism and shit but they dont realize world peace would mean world government or a sole cilture (or atleast a very homogenuos one) and that would mean less diversity in the end, and less choice, less fun, globalization is something all the world population is affected by, right now, but they dont understand it. Fox and mtv are now world culture, and thats america's fault. You live by the corporations for the corporations, in fact you are a corporation, you dont even have public healthcare (wich doesnt mean its free, before you start the socialism bullshit) wich isjust an exemple of your inhumane culture you're soaked in (dont tell me its a political choice, its about the health insurance corporations). Among ALOT of other things this is why i fucking hate america in its most part, except some bands and musicians off course. Yes i have ben there, to NY and DC and my expectations were all confirmed, plastic food everywhere, fat people, poor people living miserably, the prices, the fucking biased and standardized media, everything.

again, i don't really hate skrillex as much as i hate the people that think that sort of music has any sort of integrity. i try to be open minded, and a lot of the time i employ a "well, each to his/her own" attitude towards personal preferences such as music taste and who knows, maybe it is original in its own way, sorta like a drawing by an autistic kid.

Oh and i forgot fuckin starbucks, what a plague.

yes america creates garbage constantly, but I think you're mad at something deeper about people. After all, a huge segment of the world pays for & consumes that garbage. A lot of Americans don't support the system you're describing. A poll just came out showing 77% of Americans want public healthcare to be an option. Obama's approval rate is about 40%.

Also, DC is a shithole, and if all you could find was expensive plastic food in NYC, you didn't look at all. You're just seeing the side you want to see . .

not every american is an ignorant and spiritually undevelopped being, this forum is a proof of that but you know damn well you're a minority of a minority

in America we have the FDA to ensure that all food is made of pure garbage and rotting fecal matter. They carry out our whims while being held at gunpoint by a well-armed group of Texan cowboys and Klansmen.

there's cheap delicious food everywhere, is my point.

stopped several times in corner bars and stuff to eat a snack or something, always came out feeling nauseous and thinking why people would eat something like that

Seems we're reaching a consensus here
