I still enjoy listening to the older albums, but think he needs to introduce some new sounds to his pallette. The title track could have been on Far Away Trains Passing By or A Strangely Isolated Place. And they're a decade old.

I read a review of this today where it was being compared to Trans Europe Express and Autechre.... I got excited but the snippets you can listen to online don't support that theory. I really want to like this but if I'm honest I'm scared it'll be just more of the same. I'll probably crack and buy it anyway....

Make sure you give it a crack.

My preorder dropped through the post from Boomkat today and I've been listening to this album non-stop. I'm a huge fan of Ulrich's and perhaps I'm biased, but this album is stunningly good. In fact, it's my new favourite album for sure.

Don't go by that one track or samples.

You might think that particular track could sit alongside his previous output, but the rest of the album is quite unlike anything he's put out before. It still retains that lovely sound of his but, true to his word, the synthesizer has come to fore here.

I enjoyed his previous output at the time. I can't say I really care for this.

He should really be hired to composer for films. The euphoric highs make me picture the conclusion of a Nicholas Cage film where he defeats Ben Kingsley and lives happily ever after with Uma Thurman on a yacht. Roll credits.

It all sounds too the same.

Like the atmosphere. Really good.

I liked it too. But not because you said I should.

Or you meant that it reminds you of atmosphere? A really good one, that is...

'I Take Comfort In You Ignorance' - Holy shit! This is a bit of a banger. Love the way it steps up around the 4 minute mark. This track assuaged my fears that I would find every track a little bit meh, cos the first 4 tracks really don;t do much for me

Admittedly I'm only halfway through my first listen but the above track makes me happy I bought it, so I guess this Higgins chap is off the hook ;)

Remove tracks 1-4 and 6 and this would be a fucking epic EP

The rest won't receive too many listens from me. They're 'safe' tracks in the old style of Ulrich. Pleasant but a little outdated

Overall, though, I think this is a good release. More pumpin' tracks please Mr Schnauss :)

My last post makes no sense. I love tracks 5, 7, 8, 9 and 10 and will listen frequently. I blame Stella

is he worth catching live? workmate wants to roadtrip up to leeds but i can't really be arsed on a schoolnight.

Glad you liked at least some of it, Ifeelspace.

In regards to catching him live, I would say go for it. I first saw him live in Edinburgh in 2009 and it was a great show (met him afterwards as well - top bloke). Catching him again when he rolls into town in March, and he's being supported by Dextro and Marconi Union, which further sweetens the pill.

Must find out what this bonus track is. The remixes from Tycho, Arovane etc are being released alongside the single of I Take Comfort In Your Ignorance in February.

Certainly not the biggest fanboy on WATMM but also never been let down by anything I've listened to so far. Can kind of see both sides of the arguments in this thread, but the fact is for me his music nearly always reaches a kind of euphoria that I can't often find elsewhere. Dated maybe, or same old, but very pleasing on my ears all the same.

The pre-order for the bonus track version in the US iTunes shows two Arovane remixes!

An Arovane remix?! This could be huge; Uwe is back to making music!

I got this the other day, was unsure to begin with but it's growing on me. A couple of really cracking tracks where it feels like he's moved on a bit from the rut of the last since Goodbye came out. Still some moments where it feels too safely Schnaussy but they're enjoyable in the context of the album.

Speaking of his live stuff, I really really enjoyed the Glasgow gig off the back of Strangely Isolated - would agree with Higgins that he's a real nice guy though he was freaked out by our excessively drunken Scottish-ness and decline to join us the following night for a Multiplex gig. Quite enjoyed the gig a few years ago in Edinburgh too. So defo going to catch him in Glasgow on the forthcoming tour.

But seriously, I need fucking iTunes to hear these? I fucking hate iTunes!

I've been listening to this a lot lately and I now think it's his best album. There are some lovely uplifting melodies in here. A great album that repays repeated listening. More than a hint of late eighties Tangerine Dream in there too, which is nice.

Good work, Ulrich.

I Take Comfort In Your Ignorance Remix EP - such greatness! Perfect chill w/ the Merck all-stars! And a 12" too thank fucking Christ!
