Guest Franklin
Should I bother? Where do I start? I just watched S01E01 "33" and it started with "last time on Battlestar Gallactica..." wtf... isn't this the first episode? So it sounds like I should be starting with something that explains those terminator-looking things "ceylons" or something. kcinsu
There's a 3 part miniseries that kicks it all off. Watch that first. Also, yes it's worth it. Guest boo
i think it's worth it. there's some dodgy episodes in season 3 but as a whole i found it to be satisfying (liked the ending). if the pilot mini series doesn't particularly inspire you to watch more, then don't bother. baph
The miniseries and the first season (and, to a slightly lesser extent, the second season) is some of my favorite TV S.F. ever. It's downhill a bit from there, with a couple great moments scattered throughout. The original series is basically horrible; space mormons innit. The last episode of the new series is basically the same. vamos scorcho
This is the best possible place for me to speak this: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine ^ I'm about to finish this entire series in the next two days... it's kind of sad. It has been one of the greatest movie/tv show experiences ever. Does Battlestar Gallactica really compare to the greatness of DS9? It's funny, too, because Ron Moore was pissed off at all the technical mumbo jumbo they'd write in to the ST franchise to get out of any given sticky situation, and set out with BSG to avoid that kind of crutch. And the early episodes of BSG have a wonderful realism to them (notwithstanding the necessary genre conventions of FTL drives, etc.). But then he/they wrote themselves into a situation that apparently needed gods/angels for resolution (or Glen Larson had some kind of Space Mormonism clause in his "consulting producer" contract). The religious aspect was always an element to BSG, which was fine and good, but the level of nuance and ambiguity the series initially gave to that subject goes a bit out the window at the end. It's still a really good show, even though I wish I wasn't so disappointed in the conclusion. The thing was, the maligned and cancelled Caprica spin off was doing a lot to flesh out and actually investigate the "religious"/"supernatural" BSG crutches in a way that, if integrated into the actual BSG story arc, probably would have made everyone happy, and would have felt a lot less woo-woo. In any case, faults and all, it's good and sometimes great TV. lumpenprol
I tried watching this again recently. Even mindlessly while on the treadmill, it sucks. I'm sorry but it does. Here comes a mini-rant (half joking): Fucking Racetrack. Something about the way she looks, talks and carries herself just makes me seethe with rage. Sort of like Kat, only Racetrack is just way worse for me for no discernible reason. I have an uncontrollable urge to just slap her in her stupid face every time she is on screen. If she actually has a line, this urge instantly becomes approximately 500x stronger. This urge can be soothed (only slightly) by coming up with snide, bitter comebacks to everything she says, or just simply shouting some variation on "Fuck you, Racetrack!" directly at the TV about half a second after she opens her mouth, interrupting whatever stupid, obvious, annoying line she was about tocondescend at me. Rooting for her to die at every possible opportunity also helps, though I swear she has more near death experiences than anyone else in the whole show. The constant disappointment of her not dying is excruciating. Other especially bad moments are when she gets some "important" line that she hams up even worse than usual, like "I think this planet might be habitable." or "Its the road to Earth!!" I mean, why did it always have to be her every time they needed a Raptor crew out in the middle of nowhere to discover something on accident? Because everyone fucking hated Racetrack, so they sent her on the shitty missions, that's why. I waited impatiently for her to die through the whole series. In the back of my head, I prayed not to be let down during the finale. I reveled in glory when it finally happened. I gloated as they showed a close-up of her floating around, dead, a few minutes later. Ecstasy slowly turned to horror as I watched her fire off a nuke and posthumously save the entire human race. Fucking Racetrack. i lol'd Edited November 2, 2011 by Hoodie Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/69673-battlestar-gallactica/#findComment-1685087 Share on other sites
