battlestar Gallactica

Should I bother?

Where do I start?

I just watched S01E01 "33" and it started with "last time on Battlestar Gallactica..." wtf... isn't this the first episode? So it sounds like I should be starting with something that explains those terminator-looking things "ceylons" or something.

The miniseries and the first season (and, to a slightly lesser extent, the second season) is some of my favorite TV S.F. ever.

It's downhill a bit from there, with a couple great moments scattered throughout.

The original series is basically horrible; space mormons innit. The last episode of the new series is basically the same.

This is the best possible place for me to speak this:

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

^ I'm about to finish this entire series in the next two days... it's kind of sad. It has been one of the greatest movie/tv show experiences ever.

Does Battlestar Gallactica really compare to the greatness of DS9?

at first yes, but then after the 1st season it devolves in a convoluted terrible religious parable where you can tell they were writing it in real-time. It started out so promising, yet ended so lackluster

same dude

lots grittier and darker

more to say politically

basically, yes.

it does fall apart at the end though but whatever. ds9 had a shitty start and some awful filler.

It's funny, too, because Ron Moore was pissed off at all the technical mumbo jumbo they'd write in to the ST franchise to get out of any given sticky situation, and set out with BSG to avoid that kind of crutch. And the early episodes of BSG have a wonderful realism to them (notwithstanding the necessary genre conventions of FTL drives, etc.). But then he/they wrote themselves into a situation that apparently needed gods/angels for resolution (or Glen Larson had some kind of Space Mormonism clause in his "consulting producer" contract). The religious aspect was always an element to BSG, which was fine and good, but the level of nuance and ambiguity the series initially gave to that subject goes a bit out the window at the end.

It's still a really good show, even though I wish I wasn't so disappointed in the conclusion. The thing was, the maligned and cancelled Caprica spin off was doing a lot to flesh out and actually investigate the "religious"/"supernatural" BSG crutches in a way that, if integrated into the actual BSG story arc, probably would have made everyone happy, and would have felt a lot less woo-woo.

In any case, faults and all, it's good and sometimes great TV.

sweet thanks fellows... what's the "fracking" miniseries called. like if i was going to ahem torrent it or something.

It's called Battlestar Galactica and it's from 2003. Edit: disparaissant beat me to it.

edit: also, it's just "frak" or "frakking" without the c, to preserve the dirty four-letteredness of it. :wang:

I tried watching this again recently. Even mindlessly while on the treadmill, it sucks. I'm sorry but it does. I hunger for good sci fi as much as the next person, but this isn't it...though to be fair I've never been able to make it to season 3. But you can just feel the suckiness encroaching...

After this I listened to geogaddi and I didn't like it, I was quite vomitting at some tracks, I realized they were too crazy for my ears, they took too much acid to play music I stupidly thought (cliché of psyché music) But I knew this album was a kind of big forest where I just wasn't able to go inside.

I was in US tjis summer, and eat in KFC. FUCK That's the worst thing i've ever eaten. The flesh simply doesn't cleave to the bones. Battery ferming. And then, foie gras is banned from NY state, because it's considered as ill-treat. IT'S NOT. KFC is tourist ill-treat. YOU POISONERS! Two hours after being to KFC, i stopped in a amsih little town barf all that KFC shit out. Nice work!

So i hope this woman is not like kfc chicken, otherwise she'll be pulled to pieces.

he shaves that off during the end, though. also, you can't deny that lee adama's hair turns into some messed up poofy shit. kara's goes to hell too. so does roslin's (HAR HAR HAR).

i think all the hair stylists on the fleet were confiscated by the sixes.

ps: omg six.

holy shit, she had cancer? i had no idea.

through the years, a man peoples a space with images of provinces, kingdoms, mountains, bays, ships, islands, fishes, rooms, tools, stars, horses and people. shortly before his death, he discovers that the patient labyrinth of lines traces the image of his own face.

Katee was on Nip/Tuck a bit before she had to leave to take care of the C (they replaced her with Rose "Jesus God Not Her" McGowan); she was the only reason I tuned in to that awful little show. She was owning it, too.
