I like it. But now what?

Now you stop touching yourself like that and get back to work.

p.s. the 12'' just arrived on my desk :w00t:

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

It's the side project of several Elvis Presley impersonators and a monkey on a keyboard trained to play the British national anthem and Auld Lang Syne

wheoever it is, this is fucking brilliant. maelstrom and cyg x-1 especially from the samples. And the last one.

Haahaha

Thanks to Skrillex all 15 yr olds are wondering what all the hype about Steinvord is about. Lovely stuff. They won't know what hit them.

Skrill FTW!

*still waiting for the drop*

3rd track sounds more Squarepusher, the first and second sounded more Aphexian IMO

I might buy a second copy as I think I will wear this mofo out lol

I don't know it seems pretty obvious to be squarepusher...

You can even hear the same breaks from my fucking sound and bonneville occident in "Maelstrom" and Toms signature timestretch.

Steinvord = steinbolt lord?

Regardless it's fucking GOOD and I want it. Digital release somewhere? I'm ready to buy the vinyl and let it sit here than illegally download it just so I can listen to it and he gets his money lol.

Reminds me of Odan, specially that first track. There is a track on 'charlbury gardens' that has some of the exact same synth timbres and drum programming...

IMO if this is Aphex or Pusher, its old work that they didn't try very hard on as both of them have gone past this level of digital fuckery into either not making good music anymore, or never releasing.

Although they are just rumours to this point, it is floating around on the net that pusher may be releasing something this summer that is more like his old tunes. Also given his warp20 set and some media releases from Japan... well basically i'm just hoping it's not a rumour and he is going back to his old style.

Steinvord, steinbolt lord I think?

I'm pretty sure it's the both of them taking a piss at us. For example on the steinvord myspace theres a track called phorumwankery something or other? Don't you think that's in reference to the WATMM forums and all this nonsense? haha

Steinvord is to pusher as the Tuss is to AFX I guess. A kind of social experiment or something I don't know.

if it's really tom or richard 'taking the piss' id say a more apt description is 'tom and richard piss takes' since yeah as you've identified there 'toms signature time stretch sound' a combination of spectral trickery and stretching from 10 years ago, why would it appear on a record now?

Change "taking the piss" into "relaxing and releasing some good old-fashioned breakbeat smashers" and I think you've nailed it. Music must not ALWAYS push forward. It can be for dancing, freaking out, or just feeling some comfort from cool sounds.

If the only reason that this "can't be an established artist" like those two is that it's not boundary-pushing "enough", well then maybe that wasn't necessarily the intent of Steinvord anyway.

That and of course they know that an "unknown artist who is or isn't someone more noteworthy" is a bankable gimmick at this point.

Because cmon. Is it "Ontrack" that is the one with the ridiculously thick, modulating, one-note bassline and gated breaks? That track is fucking AMAZING. Shit I think I need to buy this.

Because it sounds fucking amazing! Don't ever try to understand. 6 years on and I still cant get my head around the shift from Ultravisitor to Hello Everything. Makes no sense as a Squarepusher record to me whatsoever and probably never will. Personally I would accept endless variations on the Ultravisitor style forever. Fuck trying to move forward when you've already found perfection.

yeah I'd echo this sentiment more or less. really haven't been digging the more recent Squarepusher stuff at all. Do you know is far and away my fav album of his, Ultravisitor less so, but everything since then has felt like more and more of a let down. I'd probably be happy with endless variations of Do you know being released every 6 months. Obviously that's not gonna happen, and I can appreciate that artists move on to new pastures..

I have to say though, and this is not meant as trolling of any sort. But there has been a lot of VERY good hyper edited jungle/breakcore etc going around for the past 10 years, and more often than not its been offhandedly dismissed as old, not progressive, cliched or whatever. personally I still love it and always will. But it's interesting to see how none of that dismissivness is being applied to this EP, presumably since it's released on Rephlex, or might possibly have something to do with Aphex or Pusher..

personally I think it's quite a cool omen, perhaps the wheel is turning once more and the interest in the more intricate, complex programming will start to rise again. Id like that at least
