The management of society requires a technical approach - politicians on the whole lack this technical approach. Most come from backgrounds of law and business which have nothing to do with updating society technically. They know nothing. I'd rather see no one vote to demonstrate that people have had enough of the same shit.

I'll be writing in a :sup: on the ballot. I hope they don't take that as an Obama vote. You know, like just because he's black he's the "cool" guy with the glasses. Not that I'm trying to be racist or imply that all African American people are cool. They aren't not cool either. I'm colorblind when it comes to coolness I.... um. shit.

Most of them know enough to form subcommittees where they hire technical advisers.

Not every, but many. I'd like to see how you get on in the 21st century with no laptop, toaster, fridge freezer, central heating, air conditioning, transportation etc.

Why can't technicians/scientists come together - why the need for a politician to unite people around a table? Are politicians the 'ultimate' organisers in the world? I realise I'm questioning something very old and traditional which people are so, so familiar with - but I don't see any place for a politician in the society I've been discussing on here many times. Do you understand where I'm coming from when I proclaim that society is a technical construct? It is a system in and of itself. Use the analogy of the human body - one holistic, interconnected system working together [from a technical standpoint] to support the survival of the organism.

You don't see a place for a politician because the concept interferes with your ideal society.

Reasons why scientists/technicians should not come together to form policy

1. Very often - scientists, engineers, and technicians have a difficult time coming to a consensus. One need only look at the widely varying amount of health information to see that this is obvious.

2. Scientists and other technical people often do not have a firm grasp on social implications of technological implementations. Beyond that, they often have no idea on how a society should function. If you want to see how many technical minded people think the world should run, head over to slashdot - libertarianism is rampant over there, and I don't mean the "friendly" kind that Ron Paul offers.

3. Scientists and other technical people would best serve society by spending their time on doing actual science, rather than sitting around in committees determining policy and implementation of scientific development. Specialization is good.

Society is a technical construct? Society is a social construct. You've said that many times yourself.

The human body is not holistic - it is a collection of systems. The immune system is one example. Our body is also dependent on many outside agents to survive - for example, the bacteria in your gut.

Are politicians the ultimate organizers? I don't know - but I do know that I would prefer to have someone who's spent time studying history, law, anthropology, sociology, international relations, economics or even psychology to try and organize people rather than scientists who are used to dealing with absolutes a lot of the time.

By the way - those technological devices you mentioned earlier? You know why you're able to afford them? Because of globalization and capitalism. The progress in design and efficiency of those items? Because scientists and inventors spent their time working on that stuff instead of worrying about how to distribute food to the masses.
