lly saw Encounters at the End...and I loved it...typical Herzog, flips a documentary about "antartica" on its head. i do think herzog is one of my fave filmmakers of all time. gonna check this one out.

im surprised Herzog's last fictional movie got little to zero attention on this forum with so many fans of his here. his remake of bad lieutenant completely overshadowed what seemed like a potentially better movie.

strange and brilliant film bad lieutenant is. cage is wonderful. also, 'my son, my son, what have ye done?', equally as strange, it might well be the lesser of the two films. produced by david lynch

tbh im still catching up on his old films. the man makes one or two films a year.

bad lieutenant was not a remake

and my son my son what have you done was his best non-documentary in a long time.

can't wait to see the new one.

i've been on a herzog binge lately...watched "lessons in darkness" yesterday, and "encounters at the end of the world" today. plus all the old kinski films..aguirre, fitzcarraldo etc. over the last few weeks. (pro-tip: watching aguirre stoned is one of the best things cinema has to offer).

can't wait for this one

he's not at all. He reveres nature.

He reveres it for IT'S indifference towards him, towards Timmy Treadwell, towards Aguirre, towards Fitzcarraldo, towards Dieter Dengler, towards a penguin...

ahh that's more like it. i need to sit down and watch, and actually concentrate to, one of his films for a change.

sure sure, i'd believe that if i could somehow erase my own memory of watching the original. I find it funny when people treat artists as infallible people, like those who believe Aphex Twin invented acid techno or that Herzog's bad lieutenant is a completely original piece of work and is not a 'remake'

i personally think Herzog is whimsical and he likes to make up stories for the fun of it. I forgot which movie it was but he made up a myth about local townspeople thinking a hidden city was underneath the ice. Apparently he completely made up this part but nonetheless actually stood on top of a very dangerous unstable patch of ice to hoax this. I find it extremely difficult to believe that a filmmaker like him would not watch the original Bad Lieutenant, and am i the only one here who thinks the seal sounds in Journeys was faked too?

I don't know if the seal sounds were faked, but I agree that literal truth is not of great interest to Herzog. In fact, I'd say much of the time (especially these days, now that he's old, a bit famous, and becoming a bit of a caricature of himself) he assembles whatever he's filming to support his preconceptions. I usually don't mind this too much, as I happen to "agree" or at least sympathize with his take on things...

After this I listened to geogaddi and I didn't like it, I was quite vomitting at some tracks, I realized they were too crazy for my ears, they took too much acid to play music I stupidly thought (cliché of psyché music) But I knew this album was a kind of big forest where I just wasn't able to go inside.

I was in US tjis summer, and eat in KFC. FUCK That's the worst thing i've ever eaten. The flesh simply doesn't cleave to the bones. Battery ferming. And then, foie gras is banned from NY state, because it's considered as ill-treat. IT'S NOT. KFC is tourist ill-treat. YOU POISONERS! Two hours after being to KFC, i stopped in a amsih little town barf all that KFC shit out. Nice work!

So i hope this woman is not like kfc chicken, otherwise she'll be pulled to pieces.

i decided against watching this documentary. i just don't care about the subject.

It looks like it might be a bit preachy. I'd still see it though.
