YESS, golden-era herzog docu. epic tales of man VS nature, poise, vision, straight up unflappability.

"Gasherbrum" ('85) with messner and habeler carrying some stuff up a mountain, is another one of those.

popul vuh music as well:

me too. I think it's my fav non-doc herzog. A true triumph - with kinski at his best - only on the screen for 17 min of a whole two hours but you NEVER forget it.

Rescue dawn, Aguirre, Grizzly Man.. ah, such great films. Saw Encounters at the end of the world recently and it was absolutely amazing. the wild blue yonder was pretty terrible apart from the science facts, especially when seeing it directly after seeing Encounters, since it uses footage he got from filming that. I can't describe it as anything but one of the most interesting and ambitious sci fi ideas ever portrayed by the cheapest footage ever, for that, it just kinda fell flat to me. I enjoyed seeing the stutterer from cuckoos nest all grown up though.

I like this guy. Anything else I need to see?

I HIGHLY recommend these. The rest are of course great, but those are close to me personally.

Herzog gets all the love these days, and for good reason, but really Fassbinder is where it's at.

his work with bruno s is truly transcendent.. i actually like it more than his work with kinski. although bruno, as well as kinski, was obviously playing himself, bruno felt more gentle and ultimately more well rounded (if that makes any sense).. like that scene with him feeding birds in hauser. really touching in a way that kinski could never be. although i have to say his work with kinski is brilliant...

i decided against watching this documentary. i just don't care about the subject.

why not?

yes I prefer Bruno S to Kinski, except for Aguirre...for one thing the caps on Kinski's teeth in the other films are hilariously distracting...also he became a bit of a caricature of himself...

People seem to be forgetting "Signs of Life" on their lists, Herzog's first (well, first major release at least) film. I highly, highly recommend it to all y'all. B&w, like Dwarves, and slow, but really fantastic. A descent into madness in Herzog's unique fashion, pretty touching, funny, and of course deeply absurd. It also has the shot of hypnotizing chickens in it (if I remember correctly, it's been a while)

After this I listened to geogaddi and I didn't like it, I was quite vomitting at some tracks, I realized they were too crazy for my ears, they took too much acid to play music I stupidly thought (cliché of psyché music) But I knew this album was a kind of big forest where I just wasn't able to go inside.

I was in US tjis summer, and eat in KFC. FUCK That's the worst thing i've ever eaten. The flesh simply doesn't cleave to the bones. Battery ferming. And then, foie gras is banned from NY state, because it's considered as ill-treat. IT'S NOT. KFC is tourist ill-treat. YOU POISONERS! Two hours after being to KFC, i stopped in a amsih little town barf all that KFC shit out. Nice work!

So i hope this woman is not like kfc chicken, otherwise she'll be pulled to pieces.

So I've decided to check out Herzog by renting a DVD from my college's library. They have the following:

Aguirre

Even Dwarfs Started Small

Encounters at the End of the World

Grizzly Man

Heart of Glass

Where Green Ants Dream

The White Diamond

Wheel of Time

Lessons in Darkness

i don't know really. i think i just saw a lot of similar documentaries in the 90s. it feels familiar in a bad way, like i already know what the whole thing will be like. also, depressing. could give it try but there's lots of other things.

I would do Aguirre first, then Even Dwarfs, then Grizzly Man or Lessons of Darkness...then the rest in whatever order you want, if you're still interested...

Just saw "Into The Abyss" tonight.

Fantastic film. Heavy shit, but very well done.

Werner delivers, yet again. Do see.
