Hello watmm, been a while since I frequented these parts..

Lately I've grown to really appreciate good minimal/dub/berlin techno, stuff like:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nd1jJHjOJWg

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTgdFt26ZrM

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ap6Z1WVjc4

Let me know about other stuff in this vein please! I don't care if it's new or old, as long as it has the deep vibes.

yea quantec is pretty sweet. I like "Fall into Oblivion" off of Cauldron Substance. ah, here it is:

i don't know how i feel about the intermittent spoken word on this album though. watch the related videos and you'll surely run into something beautiful

Good stuff mentioned Deepchord/Rod Modell is pretty much essential. I'd look into anything on the Echochord label as well.

I'm also a big fan of Kontext, his album dissociate is gold.

Sweet, thanks for the suggestions so far! I've got deepchord presents echospace already - fucking love that one. Also have a few Rod Modell tracks & the 12" on echocord, linked above. And the pole records are all essential, obviously.

I'll be checking out all the stuff rec'd in this thread for sure; thanks for the tips guys!

In case you've not heard it, you need to check out this live 5 hr (!) dj set that Brendon Moeller recorded this summer:

http://soundcloud.com/brendonmoeller/brendon-moeller-dj-set-at-deep

It's not all dub techno by any stretch.. he's got a staggering variety of genres represented here. Of course, there's lots of wicked dub tunes in there too ;)

All of the above are totally essential and not too well known it seems.

Well, it's on Chain Reaction, and although it's pretty abstract (and largely devoid of conventional dub or techno structures), I'd say it fits quite well with the aesthetic for which the label is renowned. Just my 2p of course :cisfor:

welcome. great for a drive through the Appalachian foot hills in the winter. all that brown grass and snow, just like the cover of cauldron substance. probably good for the texas hill country too this time of year.

Thanks for your post Mellow U - all 3 of those tracks are amazing, and unknown to me previously. I wish I could buy vinyl in the quantities I used to... being poor sucks!

I understand completely. Which is why it's a good thing that the 2nd and 3rd tracks are each from free releases. "Terrae" is from Ohrwert's wholly fantastic Reduct series, which was a 9 part set of EPs, all of which are freely downloadable here:

http://ohrwert.blogspot.com/

"Descent" is from the 2nd EP in Contemporary Vision's line of EPs available for free on his Bandcamp page. There are 20 EPs and I think the first 18 or so are "pay what you want" but they are all quite high quality electronic music.

  • 2 years later...

Bumping this 2-year-old thread as I've been listening to lots of dub techno again recently. There's a Berlin label called spiel:feld with loads of free downloads - check the link, they're up to podcast #42 and every one I've listened to is top-notch. They also have a free compilation available on the soundcloud page that's excellent.

Yeah for a 20 year old (!) album antimatters still sounds pretty good.

Gravity Assist from their first album still sounds amazing too, that and the orbital and black dog tracks from 'trance europe express 1' were some of the first electronic tracks I ever got into.
