Haha, yeah. Xerrox is a little bit special. I'm eagerly awaiting Vol 3. I think he said he wanted to try and get that done in 2012.

SyMeta is alright, but nothing on Death of a Typographer. It's way too formulaic.

I've never been able to get into any Mark Fell / SND stuff - it's a bit too clonky.

Have you heard makesndcassette or stdio? I know you hate the Sonic pinball sound of their latest stuff, but I think these might be more up your street. I wish they retained this kind of sound to be honest.

There's a new-ish Alva Noto & Byetone collbo called Diamond Version. Sounds wicked. Track coming up on the next monkeytown compilation

again, i don't really hate skrillex as much as i hate the people that think that sort of music has any sort of integrity. i try to be open minded, and a lot of the time i employ a "well, each to his/her own" attitude towards personal preferences such as music taste and who knows, maybe it is original in its own way, sorta like a drawing by an autistic kid.

The guy's vocals on that release were a bit too much for me, well except this one (mainly because of Alvo Noto's recreation of the backing track of the awesome original) -

Shame man, Blixa Bargeld is one of my favourite vocalists. Marmite I guess!

recently getting into this label after being recommended Byetone and Alva Noto + Ryuichi Sakamoto on spotify. wonderful stuff. always seen it bigged up in the usual places (boomkat / bleep as mentioned above), but never really looked into it. didn't know Diamond Version was Alva Noto + Byetone. will be ravenously ingesting this label's catalogue for the foreseeable future.

Funny that this thread just got bumped, because about 5 minutes ago I was thinking to myself, "that Xerrox vol 2 album was pretty fucking good". Unfortunately, there's no vol 3.

I'm still waiting on Bleep to deliver the Diamond Version album and box set (you know, the album that was supposed to have shipped to people last fucking year...but that's not really Bleeps fault).

I need to get more Raster Noton stuff on vinyl.

Wasn't that a year and a half ago? And they still have your money?

I think originally the album was supposed to be released by Feb 2013, but it's been pushed back 2 or three times now. (of course, Bleep have removed all references to the original timescale from the product page).

Latest estimate is now May. But that's just an estimate.

And as much as I dislike Bleep at the moment, this is completely Mute / Diamond Version who are to blame.

I wasn't a particular fan of this label up until recent years when Carsten Nicolai's taste began to shift towards more beat-oriented groove. Initially i enjoyed their specific kind of bleep'n'bloops (as an alternative to Mille Plateaux' click'n'cuts), but i haven't heard any genre defying release in this vein, every invited artist, no matter how good he was, felt like "x-producer doing stuff in the style of raster-noton". There were a couple of oddities thrown in, like CM von Hausswolff or Basinski's debut, which didn't make it less rigid.

It's a rare case when after almost 20 years in the game i look into present days of a label rather than highlights.

My favourites in chrono:

SND - Atavism

Unun series: EPs by NHK, Grischa Lichtenberger, Aoki Takamasa, Mika Vainio

Grischa Lichtenberger - And IV [inertia]

Emptyset - Recur

Are there any current rumors about Xerrox Vol.3? What were some older ones?
From the Vol.2 page on r-n:
  Quote

in the end one might ask where the journey will go. will the next albums in the series – xerrox vol. 3-5 – again commit to the idea of atomisation of sound or condense in monolithic structures? this only time can tell.

Vol.1 is "Old World" and 2 is "New World"
Seems like a pretty solid dichotomy, especially considering the contrast between the two. Vol.2 sounds so damn modern to me in structure and in sound. However, the page also defines new world as USA, not just the right side to infinity from the present. 5 volumes though? Sick
