Twelvetrees
I haven't read Sin City, but I enjoyed the film on the grounds that it's heavily stylized and I hear it's very faithful to the comics. But Frank Miller seems childish to me, like he's throwing drugs and pornstars into his stories just to appear dark and mature. They rarely add anything meaningful to the stories. I'm not well read in Miller but I've been turned off reading anything else by him. Maybe Daredevil though because of reputation, not personal interest. Tatdylf
I'm pretty lukewarm on Frank Miller but Daredevil is probably my favorite of his, partially for nostalgia reasons, it's just superhero comics done right. Another thing to check out for superhero comics is writer John Broome, he re-booted Green Lantern and the Flash in the 50's and a bunch of other sci-fi stuff. They are campy, wacky, creative and generally off-beat. For dark fantasy I recommend Dungeon by Lewis Trondheim and Joann Sfar. http://www.nbmpub.com/humor/trondheim/dungeon/dungeonhome.html It's cartoony and comedic, has really great dialogue, interesting characters and a sprawling world. awepittance
Miracleman is probably my favorite book of all time next to Swamp Thing, but im not really clear on what they're going to do to complete it, are you? There were a few previously unreleased unfinished black and white issues released later on that continued Gaiman's story but i'm just wondering if they already said how many extra issues they have planned to finish it off or is it open ended? and correct me if im wrong but those screenshots are from the very first Neil Gaiman entry to Miracleman and not new right? That was one of my problems with Buckingham's work is that it was too sketch-like to rival the earlier art in Miracleman, this makes it look way classier though for sure. I don't like how they're starting it at issue #1 though, Neil Gaiman's entry was at issue #17 and I think ended on #23. I'm wondering if they're keeping most of what was already completed (but not released) for issues #24 and #25. I'm hoping thats what they do. There were other spinoff stories about the Warpsmiths (the sort of overarching aliens who drive the plot behind the scenes) in A1, i really hope they reprint all of those as well. Wouldn't hurt for them to actually reprint some of the original british pre-Epic pre-Moore Marvelman comics either, especially the really silver age campy Superman style ones that were just one-off scifi/comedy things. just found out they actually did already put out 3 hardcover compilations of classic marvelman in 2011 didn't realize Marvel already owned the rights to the original british run also Edited August 7, 2015 by John Ehrlichman Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide awepittance's signature Hide all signatures Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/69872-comic-books-graphic-novels-thread/page/26/#findComment-2353581 Share on other sites

Guest bitroast
ive got a couple of original miracleman issues that picked up from comic convention. haven't been able to figure out what the fucks going on with the new miracleman/marvleman reissues as far as which ones to pick up. lack of crediting anything to alan moore is a pain in the arse. can anyone point in right direction? original miracleman = referring to Alan moores run. awepittance
i would be confused too. The way the original reprint tpb's were done is a lot less confusing (and doesn't have all that weird extra shit cluttering it up). If you can track down those I would get them, the only problem is some of the later ones are extremely rare and go for $75-$150. The 'easiest' way to read miracleman if you dont have the original comics or tpb is to just download a torrent of the whole run imo.edit: nevermind don't do what I suggested at all, the prices have skyrocketed since I last checkedhere is what you should get: Miracleman book 1Miracleman book 2Miracleman book 3hardly a point to getting the individual reprinted Marvel issues since the covers are different anyways, i would just get the printed tpbs starting with thesewhen i first got into book 3 territory as a teen the comic totally lost me, i was confused and disappointed by what seemed like a total 180 in the story. About 5 years later re-visited it and everything made sense and it was seriously amazing. So many modern 'dark superhero' tales basically ripoff the disturbing climax of the Moore run. sooooo good Edited August 7, 2015 by John Ehrlichman Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide awepittance's signature Hide all signatures Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/69872-comic-books-graphic-novels-thread/page/26/#findComment-2353597 Share on other sites
