sorry, i knew i should have corrected myself when i said it destroys other music. that's not exactly what i meant and i knew you would mention that. i should have rephrased it as "its tendency to be popular and more exposed to mainstream culture puts it in a position where it can be possibly interpreted as representative of the genre as a whole, thereby preventing potential appreciative listeners of the decent stuff from every hearing it". which basically is the same thing as destroying it, for other people.

Yes well this happens in the music press all the time. They gloss over entire genre defining bands when talking about era highlights. Just because those bands weren't mainstream. It pisses me off how many official histories are completely fucking wrong. And it does music and future listeners a massive disservice.

Perhaps though, all these huge chunks of music are never mentioned cause they either don't appeal to, or speak to the life experience of the lowest common denominator bean counter or marketing type that runs everything in the music industry.

And

Importantly, the music industry doesn't own publishing rights to any of this underground music. For if they did, you can bet that they'd be all over promoting it as influential and important.

I came back to this thread to say that hecq is awesome and thank god someone posted about him. Been listening for the last 24 hours, it's all very good quality music.

I also second the Ital Tek assertation. That man is great at making IDM'y dubstep.

Any other good dubstep that's not brostep?

Getting your panties in a wad because something you like is becoming popular, and therefore depreciates in value to you personally, is probably the epitome of hipsterdom.

Most genres that become popular usually deserve to be popular for some reason. Dubstep and reggaeton don't though. At least dubstep isn't reggaeton. Fuck reggaeton in the eyeballs. I really don't like it. I LOVE dancehall though. That's probably why. Reggaeton is a sad failure of a dancehall emulation. I wish a bad music black hole would swallow every trace of it. Truly.

Loefah (all his tracks and remixes)

2562 - Aerial

Shackleton - Both Skull Disco compilations

Pinch - Underwater Dancehall

Digital Mystikz - all their stuff (in fact all the DMZ stuff)

RSD - Singles Collection

Scuba - Both albums

Headhunter - Nomad

V.I.V.E.K - Eyes Down & Feel It

Silkie - City Limits

Sepalcure - Love Pressure & Fluer

Boxcutter - Oneiric

Burial - Both albums

Clubroot - Both albums

Dusk + Blackdown - Margins Music

Eleven Tigers - s/t

Most of the stuff comes out on singles and EP's though, would take forever to list every good 12.

Dubstep allstars & box of dub compilations are pretty good. Hotflush, DMZ, Tempa, Deep Medi, Tectonic are some labels worth checking.

This list is on point. I don't like Margins Music though.

yeah thanks for compiling a list, and if it's supported by ascdi, i'll give the recommends a listen. I still don't like the genre because i don't like the dub end of the spectrum very much, but we'll see what happens.

good list! though a lot of the music on there isn't really dubstep but clearly owes something/is related to it

I feel like you'd like Silkie, dleet. It's worth a try anyway.
