Atari st/Commordore 64 sid/ym thread pics and tunes

i hate to say it but a dedicated "s' series akai makes drums sound a lot better than a computer to my ear.

no matter what I do[stereo sampling,edited wavs,plug ins,eq,compression etc]

the computer drums don't have as much balls,punch, grit or depth as the drums coming out of an akai.

the computer sounds great and has it's own thing but i like drums from a real sampler

there are 2 setups i would love to replicate

an atari st runnimg cubeat or cubase v1

with an s-950 a 1080 and or a d50 and an obie rack matrix,

or squarepusher's kit from 96 that is in the now famous video

I take it you've tried bitcrushing the samples slightly? Especially if you're using an S950, it's 12-bit, so if you want your computer to emulate that sound, you should somehow reduce the quality to that amount.
