SO I'm a logic dood, and I've been getting really tired of the crashy crack that i have. I'm looking in to buying it, and apparently it's either Logic Express, or Logic Studio.

Looks like Studio has like 79283 shitty little things I'd never use, and is 500 bucks.

Express is 200.

Does any one have any advice about which to go for? I'm leaning towards Express, as I really don't need to have a half million apple loopz, or thirty thousand sampler instruments. lulz.

Only thing a bit shitty is that in Express there is no sculpture synth (meh), and no space designer reverb (actually quite a good one that).

Does anyone use Logic here? Are there any other limitations that I should know about? Like track limits?

Cheers!

so might be sculpture, but for me its genre dependent, but probably isn't. the audio material that goes with studio is also hq, dunno of any limitations beside that.

Sculpture and Space Designer are worth the $500 price tag. But you also get Delay Designer and a phasing EQ that I'm pretty sure aren't in the Express version. There are a lot of plugins that are really useful that come with the larger package.

It also used to be $1,000 instead of $500, so take that into account.

Soundtrack is also a decent waveform editor. But if you just want Logic Pro, spend the $300 on just that.

  • 6 months later...

Can someone good with logic help me out real quick?

Basically I'm trying to apply a single plug-in patch to the output of several tracks mixed together (but not on the master track). Cheers in advance

just stopped into say that if you don't feel the need to switch DAWs or use logic to sequence, at least check it out for the excellent built in software instruments it has like Sculpture

The only thing I don't like is Logic's built in wave editor. It's a fucking pain in the ass. If you cut up a sample into tiny bits and then want to reverse one of them then it'll reverse ALL the bits you've cut out.

Could you explain your process?

I generally slice audio up into regions and then rearrange the regions in the arrange window. Any individual region can be reversed, converted to its own audio file, crossfaded with the others, etc.

Is there another way of doing it? I'm still on Logic 8 fwiw...

well yes, face cullar says it, but selected regions need to be converted into single audio files (i'm not on my fag machine, can't tell you the exact phrase of the menu item) . everything gets reversed, my dear squee, because logic treats your regions as a single region, above described conversion should solve the problem
