Autechre inspired plugin

Recommended Posts

Guest RadarJammer

Some years ago I read an interview where Autechre mentioned an "if/then" routine they liked to employ with max and it always was in the back of my head.

I suggested the idea to an indie developer in this thread and a day later the plugin was made (sorry windows only). This is an extremely useful tool and if you put a few in series you can start to develop some really sweet and tightly controlled generative midi.

this would be pretty easy in PD or something as well. I'd love to give that a try.

Man max4live would be killer right about now. Damned dongle. :D

FL Studio. I tried having it set up two ways; the first with there being two midi ports, one for the midi in for the plugin and midi out for midi channel, and the other having the plugin's midi out and the midi channel's midi in. The second way was with them both all doing everything on the same port. I tried tweaking all the options with both ways. Nothing happened.

I think even Max standalone lets you choose C/R or ilock

This is a nice little VST..could be spiced up with some basic arpeggio features..I'll have a look at this.

I'm using a modular environment called USINE. It's a nice mix between DAW and ME with some serious UI capabilities. There is a free version available and they are doing some christmas-sale-thingy..50% off.. check it out.

A specially nice feature is, that you can render out a whole workspace as a VST or standalone. Check out there Homing Pad-VST..

Usine is about the most awkward and uncomfortable to look at environment I've ever laid eyes on. It looks super powerful but unfortunately there are no worthwhile demonstrations on youtube that I can find.

It would be cool to hear more opinions/experiences expressed about it.

Did you try routing it with the Patcher thingy? I use AudioMulch and I find the visual modular routing between midi contraptions makes things so much easier to debug and get creative with.

nice to know there's at least someone else around these parts who uses AudioMulch too. i've been with it for probably almost a decade now, well before 1.0. it never lets me down.

Seriously. AudioMulch stands the test of time as one of the most underratet music tools.

Nothing but awesome in this thread. I've only fidgeted with them now and then, but AudioMulch and Usine are awesome. I wish AudioMulch had MIDI devices though.

The AudioMulch 2.2 (in testing) has Midi Out and there are plans for midi devices in the next version after 2.2. Sad that development is so slow with this one though.

Well that's cool at least. And now we play the waiting game.

Also, I think you're my new favorite member, RJ. You wanna PM me some links to your tunes by chance?

I just saw this: http://mutable-instruments.net/midipal

Which is a little hardware midi transformer. :) It's open source so you'd definitely be able to make your own algorithms. There are a lot to choose from, but they are more or less general as it's meant to have wide appeal.

Damn, Usine seems really badass. Seems better suited for the MIDI/algorithmic stuff I wanted to do with Reaktor but was super awkward in Reaktor. Too bad I don't have time to figure out at the moment. Kind of wondering whether I should bite the bullet and buy it while it's cheap, or wait until I'm sure I want it and spend more later.
