Autechre Autechre – What Is House? (LFO Remix)

Was listening to this on the way into work this morning. I don't get it, you might as well listen to the original.

reverb on the hihats? i dunno, never heard the original.

Maybe the point is that they managed to recreate it entirely from scratch, hah!

I wanted an Autechre reimagining, not a straight cover version. I think they took the album title too literally.

Kind of what I thought as well. I wasn't overly keen on Luke Vibert's LFO either. I dunno, just loved the original for years and I find hearing it so much so slower kind of frustrating.

i get this one confused with an actual really nice AEvs LFO song, does anyone remember which one that is? Someone posted it in the 'covers that are better than the original ' thread

Without wishing to come across as a dick, it makes even less sense. I used to try and replicate Altern8 tracks on octamed back in the early 90s and even a technotard like me managed it reasonably well, so recreating LFO for Booth/Brown must've been fuckall effort. The original is undoubtedly a classic to my mind, I doubt anyone in this thread would disagree and I'm pretty certain Ae themselves wouldn't.

Sorry for wafflng, no trolling intended but I'm with the OP, to my mind a good cover version isn't recreating an exact copy from scratch but an attempt to inject something new without losing sight of what was so special about the original track in the first place. By the way, I don't think Ae's version is shit by any stretch of the imagination, just feels like a wasted opportunity.

i like it actually. having not been an old fan of lfo, i hadn't heard the original. ae version is nice and crunchy and i don't even really like the original when compared directly.

maybe it's just the youtube upload?

I sure I read somewhere (here maybe?) that they only used sounds as samples when doing a remix and built the track from those. Which was why their remixes usually sound nowt like the original. That must have changed in the last few years, what with this and the Unique 3 remix. Also didn't their Earth remix sound extremely similar to the original?
