What is God?

ITT: Try to answer this question as best as you can. I'll start.

God is an idea created by humans. It represents the collective superego, the force of all the moral ideas of humans put together.

"Superego" is a Freudian term used to describe the part of a person's mind that learns how to act appropriately in human society. How to make moral decisions, what people think of you, and so forth.

My opinion is that the moral ideas associated with God are, for the most part, corrupt and erroneous. The main problem I have with God is the idea of sexual gratification being morally and ethically wrong, in and of itself.

Some of you may have wildly different views. This is a very interesting subject, and I'd love to see what WATMM thinks.

Christianity does not allow humans to fornicate, because this would make them look like animals, so marriage was introduced, which gave them the allowance to have sex, since being married would mean one would have sex with God.

God is the vast indifference of the universe you feel when you stare out at the ocean in the middle of the night and think how easily you could be swallowed up and subtracted from existence without any sort of remorse or human personification. God is not human. God is the absurd enormity of things in which we try to place ourselves in the center of. God is the tiniest thing so fundamental that inexplicably is the solitary building block of all phenomena -- light, love, cancer -- everything made of one repeating lego piece. God is truth unfiltered through human consciousness.

Basically I think every lifeform knows the answers to all these deep universal questions on some fundamental level, but most of us don't allow ourselves to realize it on a concious level because doing so would cause all of reality to wink out of existence or something equally drastic

You know the feeling you get sometimes just before you wake up, where you become vaguely aware that the dream you're in is some sort of abstract constructed reality, & that you're not sure how you got here or what existed before it, but you know soon you'll be entering another, vastly more complex state in which you will remember?

Some times I get that feeling when I'm wide awake.

God is the glimmer of hope that some people decide to hold when the actions of others deal them a cruel blow.

God can be comforting.

God is the reason why some people decide to justify a cruel blow to another human being.

God can be cruel.

Once they giveth; they taketh away.

God is the creator of all life and as such, is the one who gave your dog cancer or made that guy shoot all those Christmas shoppers in Liege yesterday. He is the entity that decides to drop an earthquake on us, causing untold horrors through the subsequent tsunami.

Human belief in God is the reason why many fights are started, which subsequently lead on to wars. Human greed and power often ends wars, it is not God.

Many people take comfort in God, and belief that things can get better can be a good thing if you are in a dark place.

I however, am not one of those people.

True story. Once I ran into a bathroom in a Tim Horton's to take a piss. It took me pretty much until I flushed to realize I had just woken up and was standing au naturel in my bathroom and not in the Tim Horton's. How I got down the hallway, let alone knew where to aim while asleep is anybody's guess.

Aside from that I get sleep paralysis a lot, and am an insomniac who microsleeps my way through the day, so I relate.

I think of that concept as the sum total of everything that exists, and the connections between all of it. The more connected to everything else we are, the more connected we are to God.
