i dont have a problem when other people have different tastes than me. but it is very disappointing to see everybody talking about the same artists/albums when thats really only like 10% of whats out there. (Of course its just a coincidence that they happen to be the same albums/artists constantly pushed on us by the music media and sellers...of course!)

I agree with this.

What would you rather they talk about, black metal and jpop?

Boomkat are so very fucking far up their own arseholes it makes me not want to spend another penny with them.

What on earth are you talking about, I've never dealt with a more amiable online music store ?!

(well aside from Norman Records, but that's only because I get Maoam's from them...)

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

the boomkat list isn't bad (what I know of it) - but I don't know how they left off Demdike Stare's Tryptych.

Maybe because they released it on their modern love label?

Why would that stop them from putting it on a top 100 list? Mike P's first 5 were from Planet-Mu lol

백호야~~~항상에 사랑할거예요.나의 아들.

Shout outs to the saracens, musulmen and celestials.

They count Tryptych as a reissue apparently, since it is #5 on their reissue list. I don't think it has anything to do with it being on Modern Love, since Andy Stott's stuff was released on Modern Love and it's #3 on their chart.

Anyway, I don't really understand all the fuss about that Julia Holter album. I hadn't heard the Nate Young yet, but I checked it out and it was pretty good. Not sure why they would rate it so highly and then completely ignore Seesaw's album, but whatever, they are both pretty good. I'm also surprised that the new Biosphere didn't end up on more lists, but I guess it's a pretty divisive album in a way. I thought it was great though. I was pleased to see Andy Stott and Kuedo show up on a lot of lists at least (and Andy Stott's be so high on Boomkat's).

I was drunk and feeling belligerent, so posted something equally as stupid. Naughty I know, but it happens from time to time.

That's life!

Not really. I was referring to the world of electronic music

Autechre Rule - Queen are Shite

for me one of the biggest blind spots Boomkat has is not even for electronic music in general, they seem to have that pretty covered. It's the lack of certain types of experimental and noise music that they seem to not distribute at all. Granted most of this stuff comes from smaller distros like Cold Spring or Old Europa Cafe and Forced Exposure picks up the slack of what they dont.. It took Boomkat quite a while to put stuff up like Soleilmoon - http://boomkat.com/s...moon+Recordings . I can't say exactly why this took so long, it could have just been random circumstance but i'm glad to see them trying to fill more of their gaps in this area

I wouldn`t say they had all Electronic music covered, close to 100 % of the music I`ve discovered and listened to [mainly Electronic] this year isn`t on Boomkat.

jan jelinek's list is great! love seeing jon hassel get top spot!

  • 2 weeks later...

After reading the lists at the end of 2011 I also thought that many artists are mis-using the lists to advertise their own music.

I don't like it when artists are asked about their highlights in a year and the name firstly their own stuff. This is the most ignorant thing you can do to others.

Bill Kouligas made it right. His list catched my interest cause some of his recommendations are also my 2011-favourites.

My idea is that selling music in 2011 for labels was a hard thing and they try to advertise whenever they have the option to do this.

I was asking mailorders who stock my releases and they said that selling records this year (2011) wasn't good as the previous. I know that you cannot put this on general music sales but I was a bit shocked about that point.
