Skyrim is affecting my life.

yeah i didn't actually play it to be honest I just saw the videos and looked like they just worked really hard on making it look like batman is really good at Mortal Kombat 3 style dialup combos. Im sorry i just absolutely fucking hate these types of modern videogames, they are abysmally bad to me. its nothing personal. Just when i saw that skyrim video i almost shit a brick of how boring it looked

skyrim was indeed exceedingly boring. i tend to get entranced by anything with a huge world, but realistically there is nothing in the game apart from walk/boring people/hit things with a stick over and over again/dungeon/repetitve mission/sometimes get a weapon that interests you for about 10 seconds.

 

 

 

dark souls blew it out the water, and somehow felt larger and more engaging because you had to actually work to get to new places, instead of just walk.

 

to make skyrim good i would add

 

being unable to get into certain areas until you had completed part of it

instead of 28 different short mission strands, make it so you have to work harder than just roaming the land speaking to people to progress in the game

completely redo the combat/movement system so its not terrible.

add in puzzles and difficult jumping bits to the dungeons.

 

and then we would be cooking with gas.

Skyrim was the best game of 2011. It completely reinvigorated the spirit of wonder I had playing games as a child. I played it for probably 200 hours.

 

If you don't think so, you missed it, and you're wrong.

Never played Skyrim myself. I understand it was developed by the same team that did Fallout 3, and has basically the same gameplay elements. Fantasy games generally aren't my thing tho - I'm more into sci-fi, near future, alternate timeline, or post-apocalypse themes.

That sounds even worse, sorry. Puzzle? Region restricted access? God no, that's about any shitty game made in the 2000's.

I picked up dark souls 2 but it feels too linear \ arcade for my liking. Granted, only given it about 6 hours so far. Might try again.

 

I would add to skyrim:

 

Proper locked doors that can only be opened with the name of a dragon, learnt by slaying it. Dragon slaying feels pointless.

 

Its a bit crap how rats get replaced with trolls as you get stronger. All beasts should be there all the time, you should just have to avoid them.

 

20000 gold and 10000 arrows does not weigh anything, apparently.

 

90% of the inns are set out exactly the same. That's very lazy and annoying. This really bugs me.

It was multiplayer, you had to dodge and use your reflexes. In skyrim it just feels like all your moves are premeditated and you don't have fun at all.

Love skyrim but liked the feel of oblivion better, the grass looked better...

 

I played demon souls but lost interest after i just kept on getting my ass whoooped, might pick up dark souls cause it's cheap.

could that be CHIVALRY-MEDIEVAL WARFARE love the fighting system in that game,so violent,i still like skyrim tho,i like to mod the graphics and explore,beautiful game at times,if skyrim had chivalrys fighting system i would never need another version in the future

Agreed, the fighting system is rubbish - and I've been playing it for ~70ish hours. For me I just love the exploration element of it - investigating the nooks and crannies, getting absorbed in the world, running errands. Basically it's Dear Esther but on a bigger scale (and with less dialogue about chemistry).

 

I also enjoy the drip feed of aesthetic mods, as the years have gone on I've applied more and more mods and now is as pretty as a pretty picture. I wish my GFX had enough grunt to apply the ENB patches too for things like DOF and other post processing, but unfortunately the FPS drop is a little too much for me.

I played but stopped because I felt it lacked depth. Huge shallow world, boring.

I never completed this, mainly because I spent too many hours wandering around and then forgetting what the main quest entailed.

It was probably either -

 

a) Walk to the dot on the map

2) Kill or talk to the dot on the map

d) Collect or drop the thing at the dot on the map

was it worse than oblivion? cuz oblivion, despite boring aspects, was just great

Nah it was OK - just a little more simplified (armor and weapons never deteriorated for one). I think I preferred the more temperate climate in Oblivion (Cold and snowy lands can get a little bit samey after a while) and the magic seemed a little more 'fun' to use

 

A lot of people cite Morrowind as the best in the franchise - I might wait till the mod for porting Morrowind into Skyrim is done and give it a go -

yeah love a bit of chivalry,just started dark souls,got to the metal triceratops boss,avoided him whilst i killed all the guys around him and traversed the white light and got brutally stabbed by a large shiny knight in a red cloak,help!

The first night I played, I had all the lights off, and it got to be night in the game. I started walking out in the planes around Whiterun. I saw torchbugs and luna moths flying around, and I noticed a far off glow. As I got closer I realized it was a huge fire, and then came upon the first giant encampment I had ever seen. It was pure magic. I have never felt more absorbed in a game world. It was just as good as Oblivion, but had a better soundtrack. Oblivion makes up for that with the thrill and terror of that initial Oblivion gate encounter at Kvatch.

 

That first night in Skyrim, when I saw the glow of the fire, this song was playing:

Aye the Oblivion gates quests are what make me prefer that to Skyrim I think. Breaks things up a bit

(that's not to say I dislike Skyrim at all, just that I love Oblivion that little bit more)

Morrowind was great for its time, but the controls were clunky as buggery. I liked Oblivion, but hated the levelling system. Skyrim is deffo a great game and I have had muchos fun playing it for 200 hours or so. I did download loads of graphical mods for it recently, but haven't got back into playing it.

 

One thing that frustrates the fuck out of me in these games though is the crappy quest glitches, picking up quest items at wrong time and having quests you can't complete. It's a real ballache for the slightly OCD nerd in me.

Yeah there was one mission (on the main quest as well, not a little side thing) where you had to turn around the animal shaped hoops and use the claw thing in the middle. However it didn't render it, the whole thing was just a shiny metallic wall - was trying spells on it for ages thinking I had to use magic but nope. It wasn't until I saw a video playthrough that I saw that there was meant to be something there so had to clip though the bugger.

A game of that size will always have bugs. Every epic adventurous game will have bugs in it. Especially as developers have limited time to create a game. Now fallout 3 and new vegas, that took the piss a little.

Skyrim was a great game, so were Fallout 3 and New Vegas - but I wouldn't want to spend any more time playing any of them. Like, walking to explore places is fun for the first 50-60-70 hours, then I wish I had a Bugatti Veyron (in the game I mean).
