Strangers who like IDM

Do you ever meet strangers on the street who like IDM

Today after school I saw a guy with an Aphex symbol shirt and before I could say "Hey, nice shirt," he said "Dude I like the shirt" to my BoC shirt.

This has only happened about two other times I find it unlikely that even 1% of the population is exposed to IDM

Oh yeah, I was in a trip to Guanajuato, Mexico, and some cosmic dude selling shirts told me... "Yeah, nice shirt, the Aphex Twiiiin" (well, in spanish, but translated)... Finally someone recognize my shirt ^^

I saw some guy with a Skrillex t-shirt the other day.

I heard a bespectacled 14 year old kid telling his friend about melodies from mars and how it's "like a videogame soundtrack for a videogame that was never made" in the record store the other day and I wanted to punch him in the nuts

I saw someone with a BoC shirt at Melt Festival this year. And that's about it.

I've seen exactly one aphex shirt in ottawa.

I thought I saw a kid dancing to Gantz Graf once but it turned out he was just an epileptic.

Once at an erasmus party i went to there was this aaron funk look a like guy sitting on the floor, trying to dj the hell out of some d'n'b tunes with a portable cd-radio player, and i was really enjoying it, because tho he was playing some wicked tunes, he was only kind of turning up/down the volume and tone, but doing it like if he had a couple decks in front of him, real deejay style. I was laughing so hard. I then noticed he was wearing a black hoodie with the aphex logo on the back, and asked him if he knew RDJ (one never knows), and i was surprised that he really was a fan. He showed me his cds and there was a copy of SAW 85-92. It actually could have been the right music for the moment, but he was really excited with his dnb. And i was too. We only spoke in english and i never really understood where he came from, but he was a nice dude.

let's phrase this question another way:

out of all the strangers you meet on the street every day, how many do you mention "intelligent dance music" to?

One time I thought I actually met THE APHEX but it was actually just Eric Stoltz, the actor who played the heroin dealer in Pulp Fiction. I was FUCKING PISSED.

I wore my aphex sign shirt in vegas and had a picture with one of the dudes from the blue man group. He gave me a weird look, I think he might have known.

they give everyone weird looks, it's part of being a blue man.

I'm friends with someone who once saw another kid in highschool wearing an Aphex Twin hoodie.

I saw a dude with an autechre t-shirt at a monolake performance once. that's about it, at least here in my little town. Ive seen some iddems about abroad, but it all happened at the iddem vinyl stack in record stores back in the late nineties, so it doesn't really count. I've never seen a wattem.

I saw a guy with a Merzbow shirt at a TOBACCO concert. I happened to be wearing my Merzbow shirt as well so a light chuckle was shared.

Never seen anyone with a remotely IDM shirt out in the wild.

I saw someone in Oxford with a bangface hoodie on, and as should be done, I shouted "BANGFACE" at him. He laughed, smiled, and muttered "bangface" back to me.

When at the Squarepusher / London Philharmonic tour at Warwick University in 2003 there were obviously quite a few aphex / autechre t-shirts floating about during the concert. The great thing was spotting quite a few t-shirts in amongst the students during the following term. Made me realise I was not the only one!

went to a pub/club thingie in Düsseldorf recently, was very delighted to hear the DJ play Perlence Range 7, time-stretched and loud, gave him a thumbs up and a grin.

I saw someone wearing a autechre t-shirt at an autechre concert.

Amazing, huh.

I've never seen any idm paraphernalia in the wild. And if I did I probably wouldn't do anything.

Some of my fellow bass players know of Squarepusher tho.
