was the boc thing with the aphex thing?

i have come across IDM fans at parties. more interesting one was a guy who had the urge to put on Uviol, then later i saw him on some weird BBC programme about two guys setting up a restaurant or something. another guy at that party was friends with the late Rob Mitchell of Warp, or his wife, went to his funeral (i was in the process of saying how Warp was getting a bit crappy before he said that.. awkward).

more recently a french guy put on Tim Exile at his party and i had to be like, "uh i've only heard his first album".

Nobody has recognized by VHS Head shirt, but 4 or 5 people have said they really like it.

I was surprised that my cousin recognised it. But then I remembered that I was the one who gave him the album.

Most people are like "Yeah i know Aphex Twins, they had that song about windows or something with a limo! lol I like indie rock".

I've been to parties where people couldn't handle MF DOOM*, nevermind anything close to IDM.

* Because when you listen closely, you realize that DOOM is not actually Eminem or Lil Wayne.

a year or so ago i was talking with a group of people all of whom I knew quite well except one new guy (a brand-new boyfriend of one of my wife's friends). anyway somebody asked about the "odd" music that was playing at times so i said "ya that was autechre.." (knowing that nobody would understand anyway).

later on i get approached by this new guy (french-canadian so i can barely understand him) and he says "dere's no facking weigh dat earlier you said AU-TECH-ER did you?"

we have been good friends ever since.

I saw a totally ugly fat nerd wearing a boc shirt while driving the train. made me feel kind of embarrassed. Also these long haired clones of richard wearing aphex twin logo shirts at his concert are kind of weird. Its like as they need to copy him 100% as they do not have any kind of personal style. the fun part was he just had shaved his hair back then so they looked even more weird

on the other hand I always get along great with new friends who listen to the same music but none of these behaves like the ones mentioned above

This.

When I was in high school once I was sitting in the courtyard and I heard a guy speaking about AFX to one of his friends so I turned towards him and said "wait, did you just say aphex twin ?". Actually I wasn't listening to afx yet but was pretty familiar with it as my dad did. At this time I was into Plaid which seemed more accessible to my young me.

Weirdly, I began listening to afx right then, when I realised I wasn't the only one of the highschool to know that name. I've also become a good friend with this funny guy

i was once drunk and in a mcdonalds and asked two guys if they liked aphex twin/idm or something...

i can be a fucking idiot drunk, one reason why i don't drink anymore

Where you live yek is a notoriously terrible spot to mention Aphex Twin/and under ground music as every little twat will tell you they've heard of some band or another. Victoria is hipster central.

plaid before afx?

arf?

Yeah, why not ? I remember when I had my first I Pod I put several tracks in it. I remember some of them : Booc by Plaid, 73 Yips by AFX, Everything in its right place (Radiohead). I also had a kind of remix of a Philip Glass track in a braindance fashion, I wish I remember which track is that. I was very young, maybe 15. But then I didn't get into afx immediately. Double Figure seemed more chilled out and accessible to me.

The music you're going to love is not always the one you notice first.

When I bought Confield on CD, the cashier picked it up to scan it and paused. He then looked at me and said, "Dude, good album," before putting it in the bag with the Peel Sessions that I bought at the same time. I also bought the Last Step 1961 album that day. Good day in my musical life.

When I was a grad student at Trinity College (Dublin) I was walking into one of the computer labs and heard Aphex Twin - Ageispolis, some girl walking in the other direction had it as her ringtone. Wild.

Now that I think of it, I bought an Ae EP at Amoeba Music a few years back, and the cashier looked at it and said, "hey man, were you here when they were in the store a few weeks ago?" I sez "They?" & he sez "Sean 'n Rob" and I almost peed.

When i bough chiastic slide from my local small town CD Plus the hick faggot behind the counter was all "I listened to this online and it's all bloopy and stupid why would you pay $30 for it, yer dum". I was all like "I'm 14 i don't know what to say to you why are you a dick".

he wasn't actually gay though, but he had terrible tattoos and was a cunt., i also don't know if i was actually 14.

The main record store here has pitchfork hipster elitists. They kind of gave me a look of mixed approval when I go in to get Autechre releases as they come out.

You can kind of tell they worship that website. The majority of their albums on display front and center are the ones pitchfork rates at 10.

lol

callin out elitists cuz you know their sources too well

GHOST: have you killed Claudius yet
