Megaupload.com shut down by the feds

I wasn't bothered for the first 5 mins of hearing this news, but I really got so much out of MegaUpload. I probably should've have paid, lol.

With the help of random music blogs I got into Belong, Celer and Grouper. And then there's the porn, South Park and countless apps.

It's not as if there aren't lots of other similar sites with most likely more being created in the future.

I always clicked megaupload links over rapidshare letitbit etc when there was a choice. That meant something

there was a chance to have a rolling megaupload

but you all fucked it up

I am very upset about this. I had so much personal and legal stuff backed up there. I used it to transfer masters (wavs) for the label I run, and since 2007 since i had my account, had many gigs of stuff archived there. I'm upset.

No wonder I wasn't able to access soon after a few hours ago, not many hosts allow you to freely upload files that large and without those annoying captchas, hopefully they didn't erase everything or whatever is the right protocol here.

doesn't matter if they've erased everything or not - as a customer of their services, you will never see your data that you uploaded there again.

To be fair, it was probably a bad idea to use a storage host that is predominantly used for questionable file sharing. But enough shoulda woulda couldas, sneaks you do have local backups right?

If mediafire goes down I might actually die. I will never be able to watch tv series streaming on megavideo again, it's a sad day...

well yeah, for most of the stuff i have backups. Also, I never really used it for illegal stuff, as torrents are usually faster. I guess I was naieve in thinking it was a primarily above the board kind of site. I guess what irks me the most is that I use the service often to transfer mastered 24bit wavs to karakasa's uploader and the artist that is being mastered, and it was really convenient for someone who can't afford hosting space.

Yeah, I'd say that it was a bit naive to think that megaupload was above board. I think it's fairly safe to assume that any file sharing host that doesn't require payment to use it's services is going to be used predominantly by those who are sharing illegally, and as a consequence, shouldn't be used for 'mission critical' data.
