ok, figured it out. it is a sample, but it's cut to fit to 3/4, and pitched down 5 steps.

I mean, it sounds like a really good slow remix. The flanger/phaser on the clap is identical, as is the key. I feel like naps must be using the stems some how, but there is zero indication. This kind of stuff fascinates me.

I'm not hearing it really. There are some similarities, but on a quick comparison it doesn't seem to be the same thing. Perhaps both tracks sample the same material? Just a wild guess.

I actually figured this out. The naps track samples the host track. It's the first bar pitched down 5 steps, but edited to be in 3/4. The original is in 4/4. I know that Barry Lynn made the entire album from scratch, so he didn't sample anything.

I did it my self--sampled tryptamine sweep and removed a section to make it 3/4. I just recorded it from my headphones into my phone and made it. I'll upload to show. It's definitely what he did.

i don't have my guitar right now, otherwise i would have mimicked the guitar as well. I did some synth backing instead and messed with drums more. he processed the sample differently, but you'll see that it is the same.

the main difference is i didn't normalize and the kick of the original sample still has that time stretched sound that naps edited out. he spent a lot more time sorting the sample than I did.

One step further in the puzzle. The sample is the stereo difference of the original. With the mono removed, the percussion is in the background much more.
