this is, apparently, a thing.

remixing a genre of music is cool, shangaan electro or whatever, i like that idea... but because music geek culture has ran out of shit to listen to now things like Brazilian Disco, Afrobeat or whatever the fuck old world music that nobody cared about before now becomes overly retro fetishized. I find it very interesting, but this is just even weirder. I'd rather have an Ethiopiques mashup with Aphex Twin, but i guess since culture moves at light speed now that is old school, right now afrobeat is the shit

yeah, i hear 'demdike stare remix shangaan' and i'm intrigued cos they're such disparate genres and cos i know demdike will do a good interesting job.

but the stuff in the OP is like someone got a shangaan electro samplepack and played it at the same bpm in ableton. it sucks.
