In honour of the new England manager, The guardian collected a bunch of Roy videos. They titled the article "Roy Hodgson: a brief career history in YouTube clips" ..

Includes clips such as this one ..

Sums up the media's attitude, bitter that Harry didn't get the job.

Whereas i hope they do, just to piss off chelsea fans.

Harry Redknapp was going to cost the FA 10 million pounds, Roy in the other hand is out of contract in the summer, that might have influenced the FA to choose Roy over Harry.

Definitely.

Harry would have probably negotiated harder for a massive wage as well.

Roy is the better manager on paper, so it's a fine choice. There's no better English manager at the moment. It's a job he deserves and depending on a decent win-ratio it could top-off an illustrious career.

Roy's good at getting weaker teams to perform better than the sum of their parts. He's tactically good and has international experience. Relatively speaking, England are a Fulham / WBA outfit.

Redknapp is not as good tactically and relies on getting flair players to 'do their thing'. This would not suit England at all as there are very few English players with the required technique / flair.

This may or may not be the main reason behind the appointment but it should have been.

There are actually plenty of England players with the required flair, but the system played by the NT rarely takes advantage of that flair.

England should play a 3-5-2. Cole and Johnson/Walker as the wingbacks. King/Ferdinand/Smalling as the back three. Cahill and....someone to sub, but not terry he's too bloody slow to play in that formation.

Downing (with the provision he is not to shoot)/Gerrard/Cleverly in the middle of the pitch.

Rooney/Welbeck up front (Sturridge/Crouch the alternates).

Tales advantage of the natural pace in the wingbacks, packs the middle of the pitch, and has some decent strikers.

Joe Hart between the sticks. like a boss

Anyhooo back on topic - Hodgson will play a 4-4-2, and have no plan B. He's proven that time in time out.

Tactically the owl and the vicar are about the same (and in terms of winning percentage they're virtually neck and neck), but 'arry is well on top of the owl when it comes to managing the players.

Bielsa for England?

I disagree, Roy is better tactically and more equipped to utilise Opta/ProZone type stats to adapt from game to game and select the right squad/tactics. Which is the way modern football is going and something an average team needs if it wants to succeed. 'Arry would be out of his depth and his comfort zone.

I think - hope - he is just what England require. Personally I hope he starts a gradual process of getting rid of the likes of Lampard, Terry, Gerrard and even Cole. Replacing them with intelligent team players instead. Ones that fit into a system.

I'm not saying he'll find success, but i do think he's probably the best candidate at this moment.

lol I didn't realize you were writing satire. Hodgson will use the 4-4-2 until he dies, with perhaps the odd variation of 4-4-1-1.

ARRY IS A TOP TOP CHAP ALRIGHT? HE NEVER DID NOTHING TO NO ONE OK?

yeah but seriously that must have been a hell of a row with levy. I don't think anyone was really expecting this. and no I don't really want moyes. would rather an big name international coach to keep the big international players. do we want to be a big club or not?

Mourinho plz.

I wouldn't mind 'arry being a pundit. Quite enjoyed what he had to say when he was on BBC. Very direct and to the point, very humourless which for once I like.

mourinho would be great yeah

wouldn't mind capello but would be very different than arry for sure

Moyes, Martinez or AVB, seems the job is between those three.

If i were Levy i would choose David Moyes, not exactly Mr. Exciting football but a good manager with 10 year premier league experience (unlike the other two candidates)

Yeah i think Mourinho is staying at Madrid.

AVB might not be a bad choice - none of the egos to deal with.

I think Moyes likes it at Everton - probably take a bunch of cash to snag him.

Guardiola?

The next manager is going to have to rebuild the whole squad, with Modric and Bale most likely to leave in the summer, Adebayor returning to city, injury-prone/old defenders, the Spurs job is going to be a pain in the arse, it all depends if Levy gives the manager some serious cash.
