Does anyone besides me follow the Bundesliga?

It's a awesome league. I would argue it's just as good as the Premier League and even better on some areas.

  • Exciting league
  • Great stadiums
  • Passionate fans
  • Talents
  • Rarely any boring matches

I've to been to the Westfalenstadion, and the atmosphere was just mindblowing. Not like the boring snoozefest atmosphere there is at most Premier League matches these years.

Discuss.

this is the Bundesliga thread not german second division thread.

Just kidding ..

The german league is great. Dortmund are a fantastic team, they'll win the league and next season they will sign Reus from monchengladbach .. Gotze and Reus on the same team..fuck me.

Yeah the German league produces some very exciting football for sure. I just don't have enough time to follow it as much as the Premier league.

good times!

EDIT: to get this straight, i don't care much for football or the bundesliga, but i enjoy beeing live in the stadium when "die Eintracht" plays. i'm going to live games since i'm 13 or 14 (and thats a long time) and the atmosphere especially in frankfurt can hardly be beaten... even had a 2 year nationwide stadium ban some time ago, but that's another story...

Eintracht Frankfurt is a awesome club. Hope to see them back in the Bundesliga very soon.

I'm heading to Germany later in the year, and want to get to a game, apparently they're awesome over there, really cheap and good German beers you're allowed to drink in the stands. yes!!

Go to any Dortmund home game, that place is amazing. The Westfalenstadion holds 80,000 people.

The Westfalenstadion (now called Signal Iduna Park) is great. i was there a few years ago and watched germany vs. usa in the dfb lounge. free drinks/food the whole night and i met an ex-coach from eintracht frankfurt there (dragoslav stepanovich). again, good times!

Bayern won 7-1 againts Hoffenheim. And Dortmund drew against Augsburg.

Fuck. I don't hope Bayern will get a good run now. I really want Dortmund to win the league again this year.

They won't, Bayern still have to face some strong opposition, Hoffenheim been shit all season.

No I don't think it's likely either. Dortmund haven't lost a single match this spring. And they will keep winning matches.

I'm also really happy that Möchengladbach is staying in the top of table. But they should have been able to beat a team like Freiburg today, if they want to stay in a ChL spot.

part of me wants Möchengladbach to qualify for CL, but Marco Reus is off to Dormund next season, without him they'll get beat 6-0 by the likes of Napoli.

True. They don't have a chance to do much without Reus.

If Dortmund can keep Götze, they will have one Europe's most exciting teams next year. Götze and Reus on the same team just sounds insanely good.

Don't forget Kagawa - one of the most exciting players to come out of Asia ever. He changes the look of your attackers quite dramatically.

as a german and soccerhead, i follow the 1./2./3./4. league in germany since many years....atmosphere here is truly great (i was in a second league game this year which had 74.400 spectators).

kagawa, götze and reus are truly great and everyone hypes them in germany, but i have to admit that:awa

1. götze is really skilled

2. kagawa is kind of over-hyped like a lot of the dortmund players....look at lewandowski, blaszczykowski, barrios, santana, they are all in the top 15 players of dortmund and they are kind of...average, so i think dortmund will fall fromt theier throne maybe in one year like wolfsburg did after they won he bundesliga in 2009.

3. reus is really skilled, too.

4. mönchengladbach will fall down the tablet pretty soon, or they will fail in europe like fsv mainz did this year. they will lose all of their important players (e.g. reus to dortmund). also, they almost got into second league last season with, quite, the same players they have now. favre won't be able to have his players being that awesome for more than one season.

5. dortmund failed HARD internationally the last years. they make promises in the bundesliga they can't keep in europe.

6. don't forget about hannover 96...they will be kind of an permanent guest to europe in the next years like werder bremen was in the past.

7. gomez is really good, but klose was and still is better. the transfer-politics of bayern are amazingly stupid.

Well obviously I don't follow the bundesliga as closely as you, but I don't think Kagawa is over-hyped. From what I've seen he's quick, makes intelligent decisions and has some decent skill. Plus I think his partnership with Gotze is quite good.

I understand that Dortmund doesn't have any cash flow issues right? So they should be able to keep the side together, and maybe they'll be able to put together a decent run in the CL next season. You're certainly right in how they don't live up to their potential in Europe. That may be a question of experience though, and now that they've had a couple of seasons tasting CL play they might do more. Shame they couldn't keep Sahin, he's wasted at Madrid.

re: Bayern transfer politics - it seems to me that in Germany, the transfer stuff (especially around Bayern) is very very heavily laced with politics - for example the Neuer transfer.

Tell the story. Are you a streaker?

I was at Olympiastadion when Hertha played against Dortmund. 75000 fans and great atmosphere, where blue and yellow supporters sat side by side. No arguing or trash talking even in the beer queue. What I don't understand is why a team from Berlin can be such underachievers. For fun, I've tried to start up games with Hertha in FIFA or Football Manager, and despite beeing a team from a big city with a lot of supporters, Hertha seem to be a rather "poor" club. How can that be? A lack of sponsors?

Paris SG were in a similar situation, decent support, big city club but no money .. 'til .. you know. Berlin have been decent (mid table) but the last couple of years have been horrible for them.

well, the "deutsche bahn" is sponsoring hertha bsc, which is one of the biggest companies in germany, but they don't give them that much money. it's a bit like fc ingolstadt in second league, which is sponsored by Audi but also shitty. Another big problem for berlin is that their stadium is really expensive for them, as they have to pay a lot of money to the city of berlin for playing in it.

also, hertha bsc does not have a descent youth academy, their manager michael preetz is just plain stupid and incompetent (that's not really a secret in germany), and they don't have a big fanbase. you have to consider they are one of two professional clubs in a city of 3 million people (the other one is fc union berlin) and they don't get their stadium full of people, most matches are watched by about 50.000-60.000 people (74.000 would fit in).

the transfer of neuer was a big deal in germany, because since kahn has gone, bayern wanted to have the best keeper in germany, but michael rensing and thomas kraft failed both. the ultras of bayern don't really like schalke, so that was kind of a problem.
