Computer problem concerning an unknown device causing slow startup

Recommended Posts

Yeah-- I never used mine in dusty environments (basically just at school and in my apartment, which was pretty thoroughly cleaned every two weeks), but it's like the lint and dust was filtered right into the most sensitive part of the machine. I would have cracked it open and cleaned it myself, but that would have voided the warranty (which was very much needed on that machine). I ended up having to bring it to a licensed toshiba tech every 3 weeks for a suck-out. Really poor design choices.

edit: plus the fan sounded like a jet engine and everyone in school looked at me funny (we had to use laptops for final exams). To be honest, the fan noise alone would have been enough to make me hate that thing.

You seem to have had quite a heating problem with yours :(

Actually i have had mine working on a kind of nasty environment - my school has tons of dust everywhere due to the cutting of materials for the architectural models - even tho i just frequently used it. Still, i just need to take it to the store once a year, and i only do that because my laptop is very hard to open. I wish i could do it myself!

lol, now that you mention it, I was bringing mine to law school, so it's possible it was getting clogged up from all the cocaine the skinny aspiring lawyer girls snorted in the bathrooms (god I hated that place)

I am recalling the case of my friend who has this lockheed-plane-like Asus laptop, a fairly new model, which had been presented as having a totally awesome ventilation system. Some months after buying it, it was shutting down due to massive over heating. We used to imagine ourselves roasting meat on his machine. He had to send it to the store to be fixed. It's ridiculous that it happened to a machine that was being sold as being particularly good at cooling down, and it happened precisely the opposite.

There are two things i don't understand about laptops:

1. why can't they have stronger batteries that will last longer

2. why can't they be designing to avoid autodestruction by excessive heating
