version 1.1.0 solved my screen tearing problem and have been afraid of upgrading past that. VLMC hasn't been updated since 2010, which is quite disapointing!

While Perian actually opens up a lot of capabilities for Quicktime (and admittedly, being able to quickly edit and re-save/compress videos in some versions of QT is handy as shit), VLC is still a definite go-to.

Yeah there are still times when VLC is the definite go to - like I'm re-watching cowboy bebop, and the fansub i have are ogm files in 4:3 aspect ratio. QT is like WTF? and VLC is "how may i service you master?"

Yeah that was one of the big things that's been going around about it. Not that the DVD drive in my lappy is capable of playing blu-rays (hell it's not capable of playing anything now lol)

I have a bug currently where 2.0 does not stop playing when paused.

Rubbish. As Gordo already said, no codec shit needed with VLC. It plays anything out of the box and if it can't play it, you don't want to watch it anyways.

Rubbish. As Gordo already said, no codec shit needed with VLC. It plays anything out of the box and if it can't play it, you don't want to watch it anyways.

ZOMG it adds 30 seconds to the installation! VLC is like the Firefox of media players: it's mainstream and many people think it's the best software out there while it is clearly not.

Chrome. And Media Player Classic is like foobar2000 while VLC is like iTunes.

Why would you want to clutter your computer with countless unnecessary codecs, when you could just install one program that sorts it all out. I am sorry, Oli, you are wrong. VLC is nothing like the bloatware of iTunes. You are just talking a bunch of BS, shame on you!

if vlc is indeed playing everything then it installs a shitload of codecs you don't need by default, you just don't see it and can't control it unlike the klite codec pack+mpc combo for example.

vlc + foobar should be in everyone's OS.

VLC would be the best if it wasn't for the retarded interface, which is so typical to these open-source programs like Gimp and even FF which is only usable after you install an assload of extensions which make it even slower than it already is. Maybe for a Media Center VLC is great but for that I would rather use XBMC.

GomPlayer also has its own built-in codecs so that's all you need, much better interface as well.

What the hell do you guys need to use these programs? How is the VLC interface not all you need?

Who cares about the interface. When i watch movies i put on the full screen, i don't even know what LVC looks like.
