Some people use their computer to watch movies (from a couch or a bed), and if they have a wireless mouse, this feature comes in handy. I assume scrolling back and forth should allow you to travel through the movie then. scrolling back and forth changes the volume in VLC. again, as for pausing a film using the middle mouse button - i've never heard of that. and if you're using a wireless mouse to control the film, why not just move the cursor to the pause button? lol because it's not easy to use the mouse on a soft surface like the sheets of a bed. edit: i'm not claiming there is a perfect user interface, but I think the solution I described is the best suited for the situation I evoked (inspired by the life of my couch-potato friend) Edited February 20, 2012 by Babar Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/71900-vlc-20-released/page/3/#findComment-1759222 Share on other sites
Guest Babar
And to echo what vasio said, people have the right to prefer a solution rather than another one. If you go to a company to install a new information treatment system, you'd better take into account their preferences and ways of working. Actually many companies have sunk because information system engineers haven't taken into accounts or failed to fit their needs. I know and I have done that but my issue is more about the menus, preferences and some of the customization which on some things goes beyond necessary, while basic stuff like pausing the video by pressing the middle mouse button on the main window you can't do. The only thing I like about VLC is that I can play ISO's without having to mess with virtual drives and it also can play compressed files (RAR). "basic stuff like pausing the video by pressing the middle mouse button on the main window" what? I've never heard of that, ever. is it so hard to press your space bar? Because it's more convenient, even YouTube has that feature no it doesn't. you can pause it by clicking the left mouse button, not the middle one. clicking the middle mouse button does nothing. While Perian actually opens up a lot of capabilities for Quicktime (and admittedly, being able to quickly edit and re-save/compress videos in some versions of QT is handy as shit), VLC is still a definite go-to. Yeah there are still times when VLC is the definite go to - like I'm re-watching cowboy bebop, and the fansub i have are ogm files in 4:3 aspect ratio. QT is like WTF? and VLC is "how may i service you master?" (also QT and subtitles can bite me) fucking lol, also true. being able to manually load subtitle files, play streaming video/audio URLs (although I don't know actually know if i've personally had luck with that one) etc. VLC. Pressing on the screen to pause it is much more convenient than looking for the small Pause button or the spacebar imo. Also vasio is clearly talking out of his ass if the whole "middle-click to pause on youtube" is anything to go by. Many companies have sunk because of feature creep leading to bloat. Also, who the hell is lying in bed to watch a movie on their computer? Unless you have a big ass desktop screen - in which case I imagine you have a wireless keyboard because you do lots of computing from bed - and then you have the space bar right there anyways. Also not to get way off topic - but "right" in the usage surely cheapens the word. awesomeperson
Where did I ever said that? Quote Also, who the hell is lying in bed to watch a movie on their computer? oscillik
VLC clearly isn't aimed at the HTPC demographic, to be fair. chenGOD
yeah VLC is not for the HTPC. also: if you have an HTPC, don't you usually have a remote? Boxee for example, has either an app you can use to turn your iPhone (presumably android phone as well) into a remote, or you can purchase a d-link remote for the set-top. also by the way guys we're in real first-world problem zone here.
